Womens Footy in Alberta was born on April 30th, 2007, when five girls met up at Kensington's Riley Park in Calgary for an informal kick of the footy. Several weeks of Monday training sessions and beers afterward led to the creation of the Calgary Kookaburras, in partnership with the Calgary Kangaroos.
Since its inception in 2007, Alberta now boasts two clubs in the Calgary Kookaburras and the Edmonton Emus. Both teams run their own metro leagues with the Kookaburras also competeing in the US Nationals. Add to this over half the Womens National Team the Northern Lights is made up of girls from Alberta! These girls compete at the International Cup held in Australian every three years with the next edition to be played in 2021.
