FLYERS at Shepp Tournament

In December 6 of the 8 teams that went to the Shepparton tournament made Division Two finals with the U16 girls and the U14 boys coming away with grand final wins for the Flyers.

The U16 girls had a great tournament undefeated all weekend with them playing a very good team game in the final against Bendigo (2) winning 32 to 25. The girls came out in the final focussed and poised especially when they needed most to win the game. Tash Kelly, Arlee Bennett and Taylen Blachford played their roles well over the weekend with Madison Davies being awarded the best player in the final.

The U14 boys score lines in all but one of the games were very large which was the result of their super defensive pressure up the court leading to easy baskets. In the final they didn't look at all in doubt against the Yarra - Mulwala team winning by 19 points as they previously only beat them by 1 point the day before. Wil Bennett played well being awarded best player in the final.

The U12 boys and U12 girls went through their pool games undefeated both narrowly losing to Korrumburra in the grand final. Before finals the U12 girls kept all teams they played under 9 points with the U12 boys respectively keeping their opposition under 17 points which is impressive. Our youngest Flyers are improving every tournament and are showing much promise for Swan Hill's basketball future.

After double overtime, delays due to the down pour of rain and a fierce battle on the court the U16 boys fell short by just 2 points against Bendigo (2) in the final. They played 6 games over the two days and other than losing to Deniliquin by 9 points earlier in the competition the boys effort right to the end was great. Ryan Domaille was awarded the best player in the final.

The 18 boys also played six games winning all pool games before losing to Bendigo (2) 42 - 52 in the final. This group seemed to improve every time they stepped on the court and they played some great basketball over the weekend. The final was a tough contest with Bendigo's bigs in the end being the deciding factor of the result. Best players were Isaiah Bull & Henry Thompson.

The U14 girls were unlucky not to make the finals after losing a vital game against to Bendigo (2). Milla Holt and Tess Meney played consistently over the weekend helping their team win 3 out of the 4 games played. The 18 girls start to the tournament was good winning their first two games against Deniliquin and  Rochester by 15+ but then fell away against Bendigo (2) and Echuca narrowly. Remi Bennett, Amy Jobling and Lily Denhouting were Swan Hill best contributors.

All teams are looking forward to the next tournament Australia Day in Bendigo and hoping to play some exciting basketball along with improvement and great results.
