FAQ's ABOUT AFL MASTERS
WHAT IS AFL MASTERS?
AFL Masters is a modified game to the full AFL you see on TV. It is modified to make it safer and played in the spirit of "Footy for Fun, Fitness and Friendship". Teams* exist within the Queensland League for ages as follows:
*Not all clubs have all age groups—the "Qld Clubs" page has more information on each club.
WHO CAN TRAIN WITH US?
The league welcomes anyone, whether you have played AFL before or not, to come and train with a club. The training is aimed at building health and fitness and AFL skills - in fact some clubs have guys who just train and don't play!
WHAT DO I NEED?
You just need to supply a comfortable set of footy boots, a nickname (clubs will make one up for you if you don't have one) and a willingness to have fun.
HOW MANY GAMES ARE PLAYED EACH YEAR?
At the moment the competition has twelve rounds played every second weekend from April to end of August. Games are played all around South East Queensland with teams as far away as Maroochydore and Coolangatta. Competitions are also held across regional Queensland.
HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE?
We take anyone at any level, though we recommend a few things:
- Jogging - get your legs going as soon as you can with whatever distance is comfortable - this will help minimise the chance of injury.
- Fitness - we really do recommend you do some core strength exercise to ensure your back is up to it.
- Stretching - if you haven't been doing regular exercise, we recommend you learn to stretch your body. Many first year players can experience niggling injuries, which is natural when you are getting back into sport - you just need to ease into it for the first year, and of course your club will assist you every step of the way.
