Altona Gators Youth League Women are setting themselves high goals for 2019 Big V Season as they look to ensure they return to playing Finals and aim to bring another Big V Championship Banner back to Altona Bay Basketball Association. 

With 2017/2018 Big V Youth Championship Women Coach of the Year Randy Shanklin at the Helm as Head Coach along with Kate Coffey as Assistant Coach the Youth League Women have all the Leadership & Experience they will need to get themselves every chance of achieving their Goals for Season 2019.

The Altona Gators Youth Women have increased their win total each year since winning their way into Big V’s Victorian Youth Championship Women’s competition. In 2017 Altona Gators made League history by becoming the first Big V team to ever be promoted from Youth League One Women and make the finals in their first season in Victorian Youth Championship Women.

In 2018 the Altona Gators took another major step towards establishing themselves as a contender in the the competition, despite losing two key players, Cassidy Gould (Diamond Valley SEABL) and Kobe King-Hawea (Centre of Excellence), the Gators were able to amass a 15-7 record in arguably the much stronger Terrill Conference.

Amazingly, four Big V teams from the Terrill Conference would end up with equal Wins & Losses for the same record, but unfortunately only the Gators would narrowly miss out on a finals berth by a slim four points.

There has been some movement in the team and movement in the Terrill Conference that will make the road more difficult, but no doubt this group of Gators is extremely hungry for success and ready for the challenge. Their exciting brand of basketball should keep the seats filled at the “Swamp” and make it an unwelcome Environment for Opposition teams.

If the 4 wins and 1 loss 2019 Pre-Season record is any indication of the potential the Gators possess, then the standard the ladies have set for themselves should carry them quite far towards their post-season goals.
