Bellarine Storm – VJBL Wrap

Friday 24th May 2013

Under 12 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (18) defeated by Melton (38)

Best Players: Felix Geraghty

Top Scorers: Felix Geraghty (8pts)

Game summary: Our first away game for a number of weeks saw the boys really struggle.  We lacked intensity early which really caught us out with Melton skipping away to a big lead.  Despite the slow start the boys stuck to the task and were only outscored by a couple of points for the rest of the game.  This week we have a home game against Coburg and hopefully Bellarine can recapture the form of the previous weeks.

Next Week: Bellarine 2 v Coburg 2 at 6.40pm @ home

Under 14 (1) Girls

Bellarine Storm 1 (64) defeated Bulleen 2 (28)

Best Players: Raini Matthews (21pts, 9 from 10 from the foul line, 2 steals), Eve Braslis (12pts, 16 rebounds, 6 steals, 5 blocked shots)

Top Scorers: Raini Matthews (21pts), Teagan Tatlock (16pts) and Eve Braslis (12pts)

Game summary: The girls got off to a cracking start leading 31-7 at the first break.  Once again they ran their offences diligently and put up some great defence.  The girls lifted their foot off the pedal in the third quarter, but after some motivational words from their coach, they finished with a strong fourth quarter.  Once again, this teams’ trademark teamwork was evident from beginning to end.  They were pleased to finish second on the VC ladder, in good company with Knox, Dandenong and Sandringham taking up the top four spots.

Next Week: Bye (2 weeks). Then off to the McDonalds National Junior Classic Tournament 8th - 10th June (at MSAC).

Under 14 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (44) defeated by Broadmeadows 2 (47)

Best Players: Sam Anderson, Blade Butler, Hamish Goodier and Tom Ness

Top Scorers: Hamish Goodier (22pts), Tom Ness (9pts) and Blade Butler (6pts)

Game summary: A more accurate-shooting opponent took the game out of our reach.  The boys fought on gamely but lost by three points.

Next Week: Bellarine 2 v Keilor 4 at 8.40pm @ home

Under 14 (3) Boys

Bellarine Storm 3 (29) defeated Collingwood 3 (19)

Best Players: Aidan MacKenzie, Luke Potiriadis, & Jackson Smith

Top Scorers: Luke Potiriadis, Ryson McHenry & Jackson Smith

Game summary: With both teams undefeated leading into this game, the stage was set for a great contest.  We were determined to get off to a good start (unlike previous games) which fortunately was the case, with the boys setting up a 10-point lead at the first break. However, Collingwood maintained solid zone-defence which prevented our offence from scoring too many baskets for the rest of the game. While we struggled offensively, we executed at the defensive end, and worked well as a team under pressure to maintain our lead for the remainder of the game.

Next Week: Bellarine 3 v Craigieburn 2 at 7.40pm @ home

Under 16 (1) Boys

Bellarine Storm 1 (38) defeated Keilor 5 (36)

Best Players: T. McKenzie, D. Spence, P. Goodier and J. McDonald-Mayne

Top Scorers: K. Wilson (9pts), P. Goodier (8pts) and J. McDonald-Mayne (8pts)

Game summary: A fast start saw us gain a 7-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game but Keilor fired back strongly and we ended up down by six points at the end of the first quarter.  Our defence pressure in the second and third quarters kept the game even and in the final quarter an even stronger defence pressure from the boys got us over the line by two points.

Next Week: Bellarine 1 v Whittlesea 3 at 9.40pm @ home
