Under 16 Girls at Warrnambool

Bellarine Storm

On the weekend the u/16 girls Storm team played their first games together in the Warrnambool Junior Tournament.  Our first game was Saturday afternoon against Millicent Majic.  We were a bit slow to start but once the girls started to drive to the basket and got used to playing together they were unstoppable.  Our defence was brilliant and the girls won by 40 points.  Our next game was against Terang Tornadoes.  This game was a real test for the girls as they were more skilled than Millicent and a lot more physical, at times I thought we were playing football,  the girls once again showed some great skills and excellent team work, which was pretty impressive for being only their second game together.  Unfortunately Terang were a little to strong for us and we were getting frustrated, but the girls played really well and we only lost by 6 points.  We had one more game on the Saturday against Warrnambool, a playoff to get in the finals, unfortunately we lost the game but only by a small margin.  Once the again the girls played well, there was a lot of great steals and intercepts and some great shots.  We had a game on the Sunday against Millicent once again, the girls used this as training and worked really hard in defence and everyone really stepped up and pushed through the tiredness.  Once again there was some great team work, great steals and passes.  I was really proud out how well the girls played on the weekend as it was their first time together and the first time some of the girls had been coach by me.  I can’t wait for the new season start as once the girls get a few games under their belt they will be an even better team than what they already are.  Great job girls and thank you for a great weekend.  A big thank you to the parents for scoring and your positive encouragement
