Under 12 Country Championships - Bendigo
The under 12 boys representative team for Bellarine Storm travelled to Bendigo on the 4th to the 6th April 2009, to compete in the BVCC Country Championships.
Saturday saw the boys win three consecutive grading games, and finish atop their pool after competing against Bendigo, Leongatha and Sale. Saturdays effort by the boys put them in the championship pool for the Sunday games against Hamilton, Warragul and Echuca.
The first match against Hamilton was a tight tussle and saw the boys go down narrowly. Keen to redeem themselves, they regrouped and comprehensively defeated both Warragul and Echuca by substantial margins. Their efforts on the day resulting in them finishing second in their pool behind Hamilton, which remained undefeated and ultimately competed in the grand final against Geelong.
Monday saw the boys play off for the placing positions against the Corio Bay Stingrays. They won this match comprehensively and subsequently placed them within the top ten country teams in the Victoria.
Whilst the boys didn't make it to the final playoffs, they played exceptional basketball all weekend and never gave in. It was pleasing to see the newer players in the team grow in stature as the weekend progressed.
It was a great team effort and considering the boys played (and won) at Warrandyte on Friday night, it was an outstanding achievement to finish the weekend with six wins from the seven games played.
