X-Over Games Round 1

Friday 22nd February 2013

Under 12 Girls

Bellarine Storm (18) defeated by Camberwell 2 (22)

Best Players: Sophie Milsome, Mieke Tatlock and Tessa Longden

Top Scorers: Sophie Milsome (5), Tessa Longden (5) and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu (4)

Game summary: The girls showed some really good improvement in this game, stepping up the defensive pressure and taking the game on in offense. It was a good team game, with the girls really sharing the ball around and looking for one another. The girls were down going into the last quarter and showed some great determination and guts to stick with it and bring the game down to the wire. Some great attempts from Sophie Milsome nearly won us the game, but unfortunately we were unable to reel them in for the victory. A great effort by all.

Under 12 (1) Boys

Bellarine Storm (37) defeated by Knox 3 (36)

Best Players: Jesse Hart, Fletch Byron and Paddy White

Top Scorers: Paddy White (12), Ben Crombie (8) and Jesse Hart (5)

Game summary: A faster, more determined Bellarine team saw the boys lead for the majority of the game. However, five personal fouls to two key players enabled Knox to peg back the lead and draw even with a fatiguing Bellarine team with 30 seconds remaining. Courageously Jesse Hart drew the foul in the dying seconds allowing him to score and notch up a well-deserved win to Bellarine

Under 12 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (25) defeated by Coburg 3 (37)

Best Players: Kai Keenan and Alex White

Top Scorers: Kai Keenan (10)

Game summary: Bellarine began well and were neck and neck for the first half. Coburg were able to get some easy baskets through lapses in concentration. The boys passing is really beginning to develop and they are looking to give the ball off to players in a better position. This week the boys will be focusing on concentrating in the game for the full forty minutes.

Under 14 (2) Girls

Bellarine Storm 2 (39) defeated Altona 4 (21)

Best Players: Vanessa Marsh, Mali Herzer and Jaimee Crombie

Top Scorers: Jaimee Crombie (13) and Mali Herzer (8)

Game summary: The girls continued their winning form downing a determined Altona. Although facing a stronger and somewhat taller opponent this week, Bellarine offensive set plays (as determined by Coach Eric Butcher) continue to be unmatched at times. A feature this week was Vanessa Marsh’s countless goal assists, proving teamwork to be a key factor in the success to date.

Under 14 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (46) defeated Wallan (37)

Best Players: Tom Ness, Sam Anderson and Kai Murphy

Top Scorers: Hamish Goodier (15), Charlie McEvoy (8), Kai Murphy (8)

Game summary: Great turnaround from last week’s game, our speed was hard for Wallan to match. We increased our intensity on defense and Wallan started making turnovers resulting in some easy transition baskets. The team’s hard work showed that we are now starting to play some good basketball

Bellarine Storm 3 (32) defeated Werribee (30)

Best Players: Luke Potiriadis, Jeb Taylor-Hewson and Issac Scerri

Top Scorers: Jeb Taylor-hewson, Luke Potiriadis and Riley Coghlan

Game summary: Defence skills were sloppy and many scoring opportunities were missed in first half, which meant Bellarine trailed Werribee for the first half of the game. Strong shooting in the second half helped level the scores. The highlights of the match included some game winning free throws made by Luke Potiriadis, who shot 5 out of 6 free throws under pressure to help us win the game by two points.

Under 18 Boys

Bellarine Storm (40) defeated Mornington (36)

Best Players: Kyle Brookes

Top Scorers: Joshua Havis

Game summary: Had a good start. The boys played much better than last week. We still need to increase our intensity. We should have won by more, but once again our shooting let us down. Great to have a win in a crossover game.
