Girls selected for Jamboree

A record six athletes from the under 12  girls Bellarine Storm Victorian Championship side have been selected by basketball victoria country to attend the jamborees.

Georgia McKinnon ,Raini Matthews  and Teagan Tatlock  will attend the Echuca Jamboree while  Zoe Saunders,Phoebe Potter and Vanessa Marsh will attend the Albury  Jamboree.

The particpants will spend four days together training, competing in games and attending a wide range of social activities.

Basketball Victoria Country participation officer Toni Lyon believes the jamboree is the best event her organisation conducts throughout the year.

“The jamboree is such a fun event and it is the first main program that the kids are introduced via country Victorian basketball,” she said.

“We will find that many of our future state players will come via the jam boree and the talent running around the courts is pretty high given the age of the kids involved.

“We really try to make it a fun event where the kids come from across the state.

“Over the four days they make some very strong friendships, which we hope will stay with them for many years to come.

“Most of these kids will run into each other at junior tournaments throughout the state and it’s always nice to run into a familiar face so there is more to the jam boree than just basketball.”
Once there, state-level coaches will divide the group into six teams featuring some of the best junior players in Victoria before spending the next four days taking part in abbreviated games, intense training sessions and specialist coaching.
