Storm Coaching Announcements 2016 - UPDATED 5/10

Bellarine Storm

Bellarine Storm is pleased to announce the Head Coaches for all teams for the 2015/16 Representative Season.

Please note that appointments for some second teams will be made at Try-outs, subject to the selection of players into teams and availability of suitable coaches.

Under 12 Girls              Tony Potter

Tony is entering his tenth season as a Storm Coach, and following a fantastic 2014/15 Season with the Under 12 Girls, we are very pleased to have him continue in 2015/16.

Throughout a long career, Tony has coached a variety of age groups and divisions within the program with an impressive number of finals’ appearances throughout that time. 

He was also the head coach of Storm’s first and only boys’ VC team (Under 14’s) in 2013/14.

 

Under 14 (1) Girls         Ainslie Howard

We are pleased to have Ainslie continue at the helm of the Under 14 Girls for a second season following her joining Storm in 2014/15.

Ainslie is a school teacher at Kardinia International College, where she heads up their basketball program.

With over 30 years’ experience in the game as a player and coach, Ainslie is a wealth of knowledge to her young charges.

She has been heavily involved with Basketball Victoria Country over the past five years, and currently assists with the NITP Program under the guidance of David Herbert.

 

Under 16 (1) Girls         Ray Smith

We welcome Ray to the Storm program, and are excited about what he has to offer.

Ray is a Level 2 Coach with an impressive resume. 

He has coached at Bulleen and Kilsyth at VC level, and Melbourne Uni Women in the VBA. 

Having held Director of Coaching roles at both Bulleen and Booroondara, he has a wealth of knowledge, and has worked with an impressive list of basketball identities, including Ian Stacker.

To top it off, Ray is an A-Grade referee, so brings an all rounded approach to advancing the players’ skill and knowledge of the game.

His will not only be of benefit to the Under 16 Girls in 2015/16, but also to our line-up of coaches who will without doubt, gain further knowledge and experience from his leadership within the program.

Welcome Ray, we look forward to 2015/16 being the start of your long-term involvement with Bellarine Storm.

 

Under 18 Girls              Brendon Matthews

Like Tony Potter, Brendon is heading into his tenth season with Storm having commenced as an assistant to Eric Butcher when his daughter, Bree commenced rep basketball. 

Without doubt, Brendon has been the most successful coach within our program over a significant time frame, having qualified teams to VC in six seasons, attended the National Classic on four occasions, and qualified for Under 14 Nationals in 2013 (finished ninth).  An impressive list of achievements for a coach who continues to work tirelessly for Storm Program,

Brendon’s efforts do not end with the coaching, having held the role of Rep Coordinator and Director of Coaching (Girls) for a number of years.

We are extremely fortunate to  have Brendon continue his commitment to the Program for 2015/16.

The Under 16 and Under 18 Girls will work closely throughout the 2015/16 Season, as the Storm Program works towards a senior Rep Program (BigV) in the not so distant future.

 

 

 

Under 12 Boys              Tyrene Kane

 

One of the longest standing coaches in the Storm Program, Tyrene has had stints across a number of age groups over her nine-season tenure. Often the face of the Association through her role as a staff member, Tyrene has been heavily involved in the Association as a Committee member, domestic coach, referee, player and volunteer.

 

Tyrene has tasted success throughout her VJBL coaching career with a Championship in 2011, and runner up in 2010.

 

With a new group of players entering the Storm Program in 2016, she will be looking quickly develop their understanding of representative basketball, and hopes that developing the natural talent on the Peninsula will reap rewards of further finals appearance in 2016 and beyond.

 

 

 

Under 14 (1) Boys         Chris Ness

 

Chris enters his fourth season as a Storm coach in 2016 after commencing with the Under 12 Boys when son Flynn entered the Storm Program. .

 

He has shown a commitment to developing his own knowledge and coaching ability, through an ongoing involvement with Basketball Victoria Country programs and events.

 

Chris has been heavily involved in the Association over a lengthy time frame, with his four sons all playing in the domestic competition and at various times, three of them having pulled on a Storm singlet. Chris was also a member of the BPBA Committee in 2013.

 

With a good mix of both top and bottom-aged players, Chris looks forward to a mix of familiar faces and new talent in the Under 14’s for 2016.

 

 

 

Under 14 (2) Boys         Grahame Nash

 

We welcome Grahame to the Storm program, and are excited about what he has to offer.

 

Graham has an impressive resume in coaching and junior basketball development, and has also held a number of positions in basketball administration.

 

With stints at Doncaster, Darebin and McKinnon associations, he has held coaching roles at both VJBL (VC level) and Big V.

 

Having held Director of Coaching roles at both Darebin and Doncaster he has a wealth of knowledge, and has worked with an impressive list of basketball identities, including Marcus Timmons and Andrew Parkinson

 

The Storm Program looks forward to a long relationship with Grahame going forward.

 

 

 

Under 16 Boys              Paul Gundry

 

Paul was a late-comer to the game, commencing his playing career at age 16. Playing in the Geelong domestic competition for both Pivot City and Christian College, he succumbed to an ankle injury which ended his playing days.

 

With a passion for the game still lingering, he commenced coaching with the South Geelong Kings, taking on roles of coaching coordinator and committee member.

 

In 2012, Paul extended his coaching involvement by joining the Corio Bay Rep Program where he has coached for the past three years.

 

 

 

Under 18 Boys              Ryder Woods

 

Entering his first season as a Storm coach, Ryder has been involved in the Storm Program as a player for a number of years, ending his junior playing career after finishing in Under 20’s in 2014.

 

Ryder looks forward to working closely with other senior coaches in the program to expand his knowledge.

 

His passion and commitment for the game is second to none, and we look forward to the start of what we hope to be, Ryder’s ongoing coaching career with Bellarine Storm.
