BPBA appoints Development Manager

MEDIA RELEASE:

Monday 2nd February 2015

Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association Inc. (BPBA) is pleased to announce former WNBL Coach of the Year, David Herbert as Development Manager.

In what is a newly created position by the BPBA, the vastly experienced Herbert will oversee the implementation of a variety of development programs for players and coaches at both domestic and representative level.

Originally from the Gippsland region, Herbert carved out his coaching reputation in the Vic Country program before going on to coach both Townsville and West Coast in the country’s elite women’s competition.

Most recently he was CEO of Cairns Basketball and coach of the Cairns Dolphins in the Queensland Basketball League.

He has moved to the region after being appointed as coach of the Geelong Lady Supercats in the South East Australian Basketball League.

BPBA Operations Manager, Vicki King said it was an exciting time for the BPBA.

“The opportunity to employ David was something the Association has jumped at.   The vast knowledge and experience that he has within the sport will be invaluable to our organisation, and really puts us on the right path for greater things in the future.

“We look forward to David not only developing players and coaches within our organisation, but also working closely with the Committee of Management and administration staff to develop the strategic and business direction of the BPBA.”

Herbert said he was looking forward to helping with the progress of one of Country Victoria’s fastest growing associations, both on and off the court.

“I am looking forward to working back in Victoria Country as it is where I started my coaching career.  The enthusiasm shown by Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association has been very refreshing and I can’t wait to get started helping the association achieve many of its strategic goals and desired outcomes.”

“The number of players and coaches on the Bellarine Peninsula is astounding and the growth in Basketball throughout the Geelong region is very healthy.  Given the numbers playing, I am quite confident Bellarine will become a major force in the not too distant future.”
