Under 14 Boys (2)

Bellarine Storm 46 defeated Sunbury (2) 45

Best Players: Baxter Nielson, Ben Crombie, Macauley Stephens, Jackson Smith

Top Scorers: Baxter Nielson, Ben Crombie

Game summary: The top two sides played off in this game. Sunbury started the season in top form but gradually as the season has progressed, the teams below were making up ground on the ladder leaders. This week we started the game without our twin towers which put us at a distinct disadvantage playing the tallest team in the competition. Our plan was to apply unrelenting pressure for as long as our legs would hold out. From the first ball up we hustled and chased and made Sunbury work hard for everything. By the end of the first quarter we held a one point advantage. The second quarter was the game winner for us with our almost fanatical pressure game with everyone contributing. In this quarter we out-scored Sunbury 20-13 with great defence leading to some excellent offence. Sunbury made their run in the third, their ball movement and height being the difference. The difference at the final break was three points. The last quarter was tight with both team sensing victory and a see-saw battle began. Eventually Sunbury overtook our boys. But the game wasn't lost. Throughout the dying minutes both teams had their time outs to use to their advantage. With a minute to go and down by two points we used our last time out to advance the ball and set up the inbound play. The ball was brought into play, the first option didn't come off and then the ball was delivered to Baxter who off a screen made the three point shot to give us the lead. The game was still not over and our pressure play came to the fore. The boys were able to cause a turnover and gain possession and then maintain control of the ball until the last seconds. Sunbury made their last challenge and stole the ball and headed to the basket for a layup. Our Speedy Ben Crombie made the difference and was able to apply pressure at the hoop to cause a missed shot and see the ball head out of court off them. The final play with us in front by a point and one point nine seconds on the clock saw Jackson make a three quarter court pass to Mac who gained possession to deny Sunbury any chance of winning. A fantastic team effort.

Bellarine Storm 78 defeated Corio Bay (3) 30

Best Players: Lachlan Hart, Dale Perkins, Kai Murphy

Top Scorers: Lachlan Hart (25pts), Kai Murphy 18, Dale Perkins 16

Game summary: The boys played well against lower ranked opposition. Unfortunately we lost Clancy Whelan early with an ankle injury, however the boys stepped up and covered for him extremely well.  Lachie Hart played another solid game for the Storm, possibly his best, he did it all at both ends of the court including a three point bomb from down town.  Dale Perkins had his best offensive output for the season and once again was our best defender on the night.  Kai Murphy was the recipient of some great setup passes from Noa Boyd and continued his good offensive display.  Again all eight players impacted the game which was good to see leading up to finals.

Under 12 Girls

Bellarine Storm 24 lost to Broadmeadows (2) 28

Best Players: Alannah Northam, Jasmine Whatley, Lily Davis

Game Summary: It was a neck and neck battle throughout the entire game with neither side gaining a lead larger than 4-5 points. Our girls fought very hard and showed how much they had improved from the beginning of the season to this point. Their defensive efforts were fantastic and some excellent rebounding from Lily Davis provided opportunities at the offensive end. In the dying minutes of the game we had our opportunities to claw back and take the lead but unfortunately fell four points short at the final buzzer. A fantastic effort from the girls in a very close encounter.

Under 16 Girls

Bellarine Storm 57 defeated Knox (2) 35

Top Scorers: Eve Braslis (22pts, 15rebs), Amelia Porte (9pts), Holly Milsome (8pts)

Best Players: Eve Braslis, Holly Milsome, Milly Porte

Game summary: The Storm girls were keen to break the winning drought at Knox on Friday and set out early to achieve this. They maintained control of the game, with their defense proving an important ingredient in their recipe for success this week. They're hoping to continue this strong defensive pressure against a tough Ballarat side next week @ Drysdale.
