IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM BPBA COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT

Attn:  Junior Domestic Competition - Coaches and Team Managers,

Re: Implementation of new BPBA Domestic Junior Player Points System

During 2013 the Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association Inc. (BPBA) Committee OF Management passed an amendment to the BPBA By-laws to introduce a Representative Player Points System to our Junior Domestic Competition.

The purpose of introducing this system is to reduce the instances of any one team dominating in any grade as a result of the team having a majority of Representative Players.  We hope that all members will be supportive of the new system as it should prove to even out our competitions and help us to achieve our primary aim of the association which is to ensure that it is competitive and enjoyable for all involved.

This by-law was approved in 2013, however in an effort to allow for time to introduce the changes, the by-law has not been strictly applied throughout the Summer 13/14 or Winter 2014 seasons.

What does this mean?

If you have current or past Representative Players in your team, you will need to be familiar with these changes and may need to make adjustments to your existing team when you come to register the team for the Summer 14/15 season.

If you currently don’t have Rep players in your team, you may have an opportunity to absorb some Rep Players into your existing team which may strengthen the team and add some experience to your playing group.  Please advise us if your team would like some additional players (subject to player availability).

How it works:

All Representative Players (past and present) are allocated a points value based on the highest level of representative basketball they have played during the most recent two (2) VJBL seasons.

Points are allocated based on their competing in the following VJBL grades:

  • VC                                3 points
  • VJL 1-4                         2 points
  • Regional                       1 point
  • Non-rep players             0 points

Each BPBA junior domestic team (Under 12 to Under 20) is permitted a maximum of six (6) points per team

Teams with more than six (6) points will be required to reform (eg. merge with another team to make two teams within the six-point ruling) to bring each registered domestic team within the six (6) point maximum.

The point are based on the greatest value a player is allocated based on the current and prior VJBL representative season.  Once a player ceases to participate in a representative team, their points value diminishes by one (1) point per domestic season.  See the examples in the attached document.

Any fill-in players for a team must also fit within the six (6) point maximum.

Any players representing another association (e.g. Corio Bay Stingrays or Geelong Supercats) will attract a points value in BPBA’s domestic competition as per Bellarine Storm players.

It is the responsibility of each domestic team to disclose the relevant details pertaining to its players and their respective representative levels as necessary.

Non-compliance with these new by-laws will result in application of By-law 6.0. Ineligible players.

The attached document contains the new by-law in further detail than described above.

Please take the time to thoroughly read this information, to ensure that you and your team understand the impact that this may have on your team and our competitions.

Please contact the BPBA office if you would like to discuss some options for your team.

Yours sincerely,

Committee of Management
