Under 12 Boys (2)

Bellarine Storm 81 defeated Craigieburn (3) 16

Best Players: Tito Arnott, Eoin McNolty, James McKenzie, Felix Geraghty

Game summary: The boys had the best game that they have played so far.  Their defence was spot on, as was their shooting.  They were taking smart shots this week instead of just throwing up wild shots.  The boys played the entire game, which is also a first for them, rather than having a fade-out at some stuage during the game.  We have finally grasped the concept of man to man defence and that you need to stick with your player.  The boys created at least three turn overs with eight-second backcourt violations.  There was some brilliant team work between the boys, although sometimes they just needed to shoot the ball themselves.  Well done to Felix for some fantastic steals.  Keep up the good work boys and don’t stop working as a team.

Under 14 Boys (1)

Bellarine Storm 55 lost to Warragul 83

Best Players: Charlie McEvoy, Zach Kos, Hamish Goodier

Top Scorers: Zach Koss (11 pts), Riley Coghlan (11), Charlie McEvoy (10), Hamish Goodier (10)

Game summary: In the first half the boys matched it fairly well with Warragul although our offensive game was not working but our defensive pressure was keeping us in the game. In the second half 3 of our boys got into foul trouble which made things tougher. Charlie made some great baskets to help turn the momentum but in the end Warragul ran out good winners and will deserve their spot in VC. We will now progress to VC Reserve as we are at the half way mark of the season. It has been a reasonable start to the season which we now hope to build on.

Under 14 Boys (2)

Bellarine Storm 36 lost to Craigieburn (2) 49

Best Players: Ted Murphy, Baxter Nielson, Macauley Stephens

Top Scorers: Ted Murphy, Baxter Nielson

Game summary: The first quarter was tight, with neither team able get any cheap points early. The boys quickly found that their opponents were disciplined and patient. We trailed at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw more reward for effort, but every point was well earnt and at half time we had a four point lead. The Craigieburn team came to play in the third; their desire was plain to see and it was too much for our boys to handle and their fifteen points to two were just rewards in this quarter. Our boys mounted a challenge in the final quarter and their effort was pleasing to see, but unfortunately we were unable to bridge the gap even though at times there was still hope. Craigieburn proved to be more consistent throughout the game and were worthy winners. We can see now what we have to aim at each time we hit the court. Keep your heads up and stay focused boys.

Bellarine Storm 35 lost to Sunbury 49

Best Players: Brodie Nielson, Raymond Emma-Nnopu & Patrick Goodier

Top Scorers: Patrick Goodier (16pts), Hunter Lovell (8) & Raymond Emma-Nnopu (6)

Game summary: Sunbury came out in the first quarter ready to play basketball with a score 24 to 4. Credit to the boys in the next 3 quarters we outscored them at every change. Only going down by 14 points.

Under 12 Girls

Bellarine Storm 12 lost to Eltham (2) 48

Best players: Jasmine Whatley, Laney McFadyen and Lily Davis

Game summary: The girls came out firing early in the first quarter playing a really good team game. They finished the quarter only two points down. The second proved to be a little more difficult but we were still competitive showing a huge improvement in our teamwork offensively.  Eltham proved to be too strong, really taking control of the game from the third quarter onwards finishing very strongly. The girls are continuing to improve each and every week and it's good to see them putting into practice what they are doing at training.

Under 16 Girls

Bellarine 53 lost to Ballarat 59

Best Players: Eve Braslis, Raini Matthews

Top Scorers: Eve Braslis (15), Teagan Tatlock (13), Raini Matthews (11)

Game summary: Bellarine girls were out to a great start with strong D and rapid transition, giving them a 17 point lead at half time. However, a lapse in defence in the 3rd quarter saw a hard-working, accurately shooting Ballarat side recover quickly to take the lead. The Storm girls worked hard in the 4th to regain control of the game but were unsuccessful. They look forward to a fresh start in the second half of the season in VC Reserve.
