16G Top-Four at Country Champs
The Under 16 Girls have finished in the top four at the Junior Country Championships in Bendigo over the weekend.
With a predominantly bottom-age team it is a very respectable result to finish top-four. Falling just one game short of the Grand Final to Mildura who went on to win the title as their pre-event “favourite” status had predicted.
With Ella Cornish unavailable, Lucy McEvoy (Under 14 (1) Girls) was called in to bolster numbers as the girls prepared to meet some of the powerhouse teams that country-Victoria boasts. Eve Braslis featured in the top-ten scorers for the tournament in both total points (54 points) and points per game (10.8ppg), and was strongly supported by Raini Matthews (33 points at 6.6ppg) and Teagan Tatlock (26 points at 5.2ppg).
Game results:
Pool games
Bellarine 34 defeated Shepparton 20
Bellarine 37 defeated Warragul 20
Bellarine 45 defeated Ballarat 26
Quarter Final
Bellarine 28 defeated Horsham 27
Semi Final
Bellarine 37 lost to Mildura 50
The girls and coach Brendon Matthews will now look forward to the commencement of the VJBL season to launch their assault on the Victorian Championship division. The team will also head to the Easter Classic in Adelaide.
