Game summary: After a slow start the boys rallied with a ten point streak to get back within a point at quarter time. The second quarter despite our hard work was more of a struggle. We were unable to maintain defensive consistency and also lacked penetration in offence and we ended the first half behind by eight. The second half saw some reward for all our effort. A full court press started to get some rewards, and combined with a more open transition offence and better ball movement saw the boys start to claw back some of the deficit. As each substitution occurred they boys were looking more and more weary but busting to get back into the action. We trailed by four at the final break. The last quarter was as exciting as it gets. Once again our defence got us going and helped us get our tails up. The opposition turnovers started to come and our speed enabled us to capitalise on our opportunities. We gradually pegged back the lead and then traded it over the dying minutes. With thirty seconds on the clock we were down by three, Jackson stole the inbound pass from our last score and put up a hail Mary shot to bring us within one point. On the next inbound pass we were able to also gain possession and the ball ended up in Baxter’s hands with seconds remaining. With a gutsy drive to the basket he scored the two to give us the lead as the final siren sounded, he also drew the foul and sunk the resulting free throw to finalise the win by two. A great effort by the whole team.

Bellarine 33 lost to Collingwood (3) 56
Best Player: S. Anderson
Top Scorers: S. Anderson 8
Game summary: The boys struggled to contain Collingwood’s two bigs, but played well when they moved the ball around and were patient with their build up. Unfortunately, too often we rushed shots and opted to drive when better options were available.

Game summary: We got off to a fantastic start scoring within the first few seconds of the game. Some great defensive plays early gave us some open lay-ups to extend the lead. Waverley fought back strong in the second half but Antoinette’s experience and composure helped control the dying stages of the game resulting in a five point win.

Game summary: Girls not at their best this week, with stray passes and unnecessary turnovers throughout the game, however still managed a decent win over a very physical Eltham. Undefeated through this stage of grading, well done girls!

Bellarine 67 defeated Waverley 34
Best Players: Eliza Kramer, Eve Braslis and Raini Matthews
Top Scorers: Eve 18, Raini 12, Teagan 10
Game summary: With Waverley getting the first points on the board, it looked like the Storm girls were off to a slow start, however they turned the situation around fairly quickly and confidently, gaining and maintaining their lead for the game. Our Storm girls dominated the boards which helped their cause, as well as their occasional steals and intercepts, making themselves a real threat to the opposition. Raini Matthews’ drives to the basket were seamless, as were the shots by the talls in the post. The teams’ typical hard work, speed, defence and team approach was a winning combination on the night. The girls and their coaches enjoy next Friday night off, before heading to Bendigo for the Country Champs tournament.
