Bellarine Storm – VJBL Wrap

Friday 26th April 2013

Under 12 (1) Boys

Bellarine Storm 1 (33) defeated by Broadmeadows 2 (34)

Best Players: Ben Crombie, Jessie Hart and Mac Stephens

Top Scorers: Ben Crombie (13pts), Mac Stephens (9) and Jessie Hart (6)

Game summary: After a sluggish start, the boys regrouped towards the end of the first quarter and teamed consistently well to stay within a few points of Broadmeadow’s score. Unfortunately, the boys were beaten by a single point at the end of the game but not before providing spectators with a heart stopping finish. Coach Ness was extremely happy with his troops as they continue to improve each week.

Next Week: Bellarine Vs Eltham (2) at 7.40pm @ home

Under 14 (1) Girls

Bellarine Storm 1 (50) defeated Bulleen 1 (25)

Best Players: Georgia McKinnon (14pts, 9 rebounds), Eve Braslis (8pts, 11 rebounds, 4 steals) and Raini Matthews (11pts, 4 assists)

Top Scorers: Georgia McKinnon (14pts) and Raini Matthews (11pts)

Game summary: The first couple of minutes of the game proved frustrating for the girls with a few missed shots; however they quickly turned this around. The girls got a lead on the board early and continued to extend this lead throughout the game. Their defensive pressure was too good, with a team high of 24 steals/intercepts for the game. Coach Matthews commended the girls for their impressive teamwork, defensive pressure and relentless effort.

Next Week: Bellarine v Nunawading 1 at @ Werribee

Under 14 (2) Girls

Bellarine Storm 2 (31) drew with Diamond Valley 4 (31)

Best Players: Jaimee Crombie, Vanessa Marsh and Sadie Longden

Top Scorers: Jaimee Crombie (10pts), Vanessa Marsh (9pts) and Sadie Longden (6pts)

Game summary: The closest result of any of their games played so far, the girls were matched with a similar style by Diamond Valley which was indicative of the final score. With each team playing a full court press throughout most of the game, Bellarine allowed a 9 point lead at half time to diminish allowing DV to regain the lead close to the end. However a fast break by Zoe Saunders allowing Sadie Longden to score the 2 points in the dying seconds to end the game with a draw.

Next Week: Bellarine v Bacchus Marsh at 7.30pm @ Bacchus Marsh

Under 14 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (36) defeated by Collingwood 2 (45)

Best Players: Hamish Goodier, Blade Butler and Tom Ness

Top Scorers: Hamish Goodier (20pts), Tom Ness (7pts) and Charlie McEvoy (4)

Game summary: Our game plan did not start to show until the third and fourth quarters but by this time we were unable to get in front even though we did out score them in those two quarters and we only lost by nine points.

Next Week: Bellarine v Bacchus Marsh at 6.40pm @ Bellarine

Under 16 (1) Boys

Bellarine Storm 1 (42) defeated by Sunbury 2 (62)

Best Players: K Wilson, B Nielson and D Spence

Top Scorers: J McDonald (8pts), K Wilson (12pts) and D Spence (12pts)

Game summary: Honest effort in a game that was very hard fought. Down by 20 early, the boys fought back strongly to get within 8 midway through the last quarter but foul trouble became a major issue, and Sunbury capitalised winning by 20

Next Week: Bellarine v Werribee 3 at 6.40pm @ Werribee
