Storm Wrap - Friday 15th March

Bellarine Storm

Bellarine Storm – VJBL Wrap

Round 1

Friday 15th March 2013

Under 12 Girls

Bellarine Storm (18) defeated Eltham 3 (12)

Best Players: Sophie Milsome, Hannah Vella and Alice Irving

Top Scorers: Sophie Milsome (6), Antoinette Emma-Nnopu (4) and Alaina Peacock (3)

Game summary: Started really well with a couple of early scores, but then had another little scoring lapse where we just couldn’t put the ball in the hole. However, through persistence the girls showed great confidence in themselves to take the defense on and attack the basket, making some terrific layups. Some fantastic defensive pressure from Hannah and Sophie got some quick turnover points to extend the lead. Another great team effort and we got a win!

Next Week: Bellarine v Bulleen 4 - 7.40pm at Bellarine

Under 12 (1) Boys

Bellarine Storm (29) defeated by Diamond Valley 2 (35)

Best Players: Fletch Byron, Flynn Ness and Bryce Nurnaitis

Top Scorers: Ben Crombie (13), Mac Stephens (6) and Jesse Hart (4)

Game summary: As with previous games, the full time score was indicative of how close the boys are of notching up another win. First game Rookie Bryce Nurnaitis proved he is well and truly deserving of his place in the team with a solid all round performance. Bellarine’s solid defence against a much taller team was once again a feature.

Next Week: Bellarine 1 v Coburg - 7.40pm at Bellarine

Under 12 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (13) defeated by Bacchus Marsh (33)

Best Players: Harry Edwards and Kobe Shewry

Top Scorers: Kobe Shewry (4)

Game summary: Playing against older and more experienced team was always going to be a difficult task on Friday night. To the boys credit they were not intimidated by a more aggressive team and just lacked the polish of their rivals. Whist it is not their best shooting game their defence was excellent and it is really pleasing to see the marked improvement in their passing. Harry Edwards has shown some real development in the last couple of weeks with some tight defence and improved rebounding.

Next Week: Bellarine 2 v Craigieburn - 7.40pm at Bellarine

Under 14 (1) Girls

Bellarine Storm (68) defeated Melbourne (36)

Best Players: Agnes Emma-Nnopu, Teagan Tatlock and Eve Braslis

Top Scorers: Teagan Tatlock (11), Holly Milsome (10), Agnes Emma-Nnopu (10), Georgia McKinnon (9), Raini Matthews (8) and Eve Braslis (8)

Game summary: With Melbourne offering tough defence from Jump, the Storm girls worked hard to get the ball safely to the basket and score. The teamwork demonstrated was rewarded with goals spread evenly among all 8 players as well as rebounds to the talls and assists all round. The Storm team was rewarded with a win, though the score board did not accurately reflect the intensity of the game or strength of the opposition. It was well earned win for Coach Matthews , assistant coach Benita Evans and their team.

Next Week: Bellarine v Knox 1 - 7.00pm at Geelong

Under 14 (2) Girls

Bellarine Storm 2 (42) defeated Craigieburn (26)

Best Players: Sadie Longden and Vanessa Marsh

Top Scorers: Vanessa Marsh and Zoe Saunders

Game summary: A welcome start to the Championship season with a win to Bellarine against Craigieburn’s No. 1 team! An even start to both teams at the end of the first quarter prompted Coach Eric to change tactics and set up a solid defence in the centre of the court creating several turnovers and subsequent goals to Bellarine. Brilliant rebounding by Sadie Longden in defence and several assists from Zoe Saunders and Mali Herzer enabled our forwards to capitalize. Altogether a very fast paced game!

Next Week: Bellarine 2 v Bulleen 6 - 8.40pm at St Clements of Rome Primary School, Bulleen
