Under 12 Boys

Score: Bellarine 36 defeated Melbourne Tigers 35

Top Scorers: Kye Baulch (11pts), Seb Thomason & Lloyd Cook (6pts each)

MVP: Kye Baulch - Melbouirne played a tight zone defense which made it difficult to score.  Kye ran hard throughout the match, finding gaps in the opposition's defense to keep scoring.

Game Report: An extremely tight tussle between two evenly matched sides. The defense on both sides was excellent with the tigers having to score on the outer edges of the key to penetrate the Storm's defense.  The game was evenly poised right to the final siren (Storm 34, Melbourne 35), when storm manufactured the turnover and scored a 2 pointer right on the siren. A great effort and win by the boys.

Highlights: The Final scoring shot by Lloyd under pressure, which won the boys the game. The defense and rebounding shown by Mitchell (10 rebounds), Michael (5 rebounds) & Ben was a major factor in the win.

Ladder position after Rd 5: 1st (5-0)

Next Week: Friday 15th May: Bellarine vs. Hawthorn 3 - at Bellarine Sports Centre (7.40pm)

Under 14 (A) Girls

Score: Bellarine 59 defeated Sunbury 53

Top Scorers: Bree Matthews (28pts), Alice Teague-Neeld (12pts), Bronte Burke (8pts)

Game Report: This game was always going to be a tough battle with two very similar teams going head to head. Both teams played a press and both teams tried to use their pace up and down the court. We were super quick in transition which helped and our never say die attitude got us over the line. Well done to the girls for their positive attitudes, and their exceptional work rate :)

Ladder position after Rd 8: 4th (5-3)

Next Week: Friday 15th May: Bellarine vs Bendigo - at Bendigo (8.20pm)

Under 14 (B) Girls

Bye

Under 14 Boys

Score: Bellarine 32 lost to Collingwood 41

Top Scorers: Angus Percy, Kyle Polley & Ben Potter (6pts each)

MVP: Liam Nankervis - Against a very tall team Liam played well above his height, giving a contest at every opportunity.

Game Report: We travelled to Collingwood to play the second best team in the comp. Collingwood were easily the tallest team we had played and having Taylor Dow out injured we knew we were in for a tough night. After two minutes of play we lost Brayden our second tallest player to an ankle injury. After 8 minutes we were down 16-2 and going down hill fast.  To their credit they fought out the game to the very end and actually got to within 2 points at one stage. In the end Collingwood's height wore us down but I have no doubt on the return trip we will give them a run for their money.

The highlight of the game was the team's willingness to see a challenge and fight to the end. The best game I have seen them play.  Tony Potter (Coach)

Ladder position after Rd 5: 10th (1-4)

Next Week: Friday 15th May: Bellarine vs. Kilsyth 3 - at Bellarine Sports Centre (7.40pm)

Under 16 Girls

Score: Bellarine 34 defeated Werribee 2 29

Top Scorers: Laura Ellis (12pts)

MVP: Ellen Parker - In her fast game as a starter for the season, Ellen dominated the defensive end, with 7 steals and plenty of rebounds.  She drove hard to the basket all night, getting to the line for several free throws, finishing the game with 5 points.

Game Report:  A very quiet start to the game by the girls, with Werribee dominating on the scoreboard, their full court pressure forcing some silly turnovers. Storm trailed 20-11 at half time, with Laura Ellis keeping us in the game with some great shooting from the free-throw line.  The game highlight was the awesome start to the second half, when Storm went on a 12-0 run. Werribee had troubled us with their full court pressure in the first half, but the girls were able to break through the pressure to score some easy baskets forcing Werribee to change their game plan.  Bellarine maintained a comfortable advantage for the remainder of the game.

Next Week: Friday 15th May: Bellarine vs. Keilor 2 - at Bellarine Sports Centre (8.40pm)

Under 20 Girls

Score: Bellarine 22 lost to Southern Peninsula 25

Top Scorers: Rachel Alldis (10pts), Melanie Parncutt (6pts)

Game Report:  6 missed lay ups cost us the win, and yes we lost by just 3 points, but we gained so much more from this game. We gained a belief that we can compete with any team in our division. We played an up tempo fast break offense combined with a 'Mother-in-law' defense that caused 11 Sharks turnovers to our 6. Emily Holohan's 17 boards were also an important factor in the tight contest.  Tonight we showed just how good we are. The pleasing part was we didn't have to change one bit who we are and what we do. Coaches aren't supposed to be happy after a loss, but I am. My girls played their hearts out.

Highlights:  Was it Rachel Alldis and Mel Parncutt's gutsy offensive play?  Perhaps the dominant defense of Emily Holohan, Cassie Syddall and Jennah Weir?  Maybe Meagan Stuart and Roz Bensted's brilliance at both ends of the court?. Or our inspirational captain Megan Van Zyl who led by example? For the coach it was just my team playing Lady Storm basketball.  Bob Parker (Coach)

Ladder position after Rd 5: 8th (0-4)

Next Week: Friday 15th May: Bellarine vs. Blackburn - at Slater Reserve (9.40pm)
