Under 12 Girls

Score: Bellarine 24 lost to Collingwood 27

Top Scorers: Carly Sanders (15pts) Hayley Grasso (4pts)

MVP: Hayley Grasso

Game Report: The Under 12 Girls played the top team in Collingwood who were undefeated so far in the season. The girls started the game very focused and did not let Collingwood get away to a start. Their defense was fantastic and the pressure we put on them was great. I gave the job of defending the tallest player to Hayley Grasso who did a fantastic defensive job on her.  The girls played a great team game passing the ball brilliantly and ensuring the best possible shot was taken. Carly Sanders was great under the basket making most shots that she took and scoring 15 points for the team.  Courtney Kroezen and Holly Montgomery played an excellent defensive game both chasing down any fast break that Collingwood tried. Raini Matthews was a strong player off the bench and assisted with the Defensive press with lots of pressure that caused turnovers in the middle of the court. Crystal McKinnon had great vision in stealing the ball when Collingwood succumbed to the pressure up the front of the press and once again was instrumental at the end of the game in nearly pulling off a win. Georgia McKinnon was solid while she was on the court and contributed with a great basket under pressure. Georgia White ran and tried hard while she was on the court and is improving every week. Skye Polley had her first game back after a serious ankle injury and fitted back into the team well.  She was very strong in defense and always a threat in offence.  It was a great game and the girls did an awesome job to come so close to a good team in Collingwood next time we may go that next step.

Under 14 (A) Girls

Score: Bellarine 25 lost to Geelong(3) 34

Under 14(B) Girls

Score: Bellarine 28 defeated Eltham 25

Top Scorers: Emily Baker (9pts) Finlay Neal (6pts)

Game Report: This week we had a nice quiet bus trip to Eltham (until I took the earplugs out!!).  The girls started really strong in the 1st half.  We tried our new full court press (1-3-1) and the girls played it well, causing Eltham to turn the ball over quite a lot.  Our shooting and running ahead of the ball was great in the 1st half.  In the 2nd half Eltham came out strong and we backed off.  Our passes in the 2nd half really let us down.  Towards the end of the game it was a nail biter but the girls did well to keep their lead.  The night was topped off with a noisy bus trip home and of course a stop at McDonalds.  Well done girls on another win and keep up the good work.  Big thanks to Eltham for putting on a great supper, and also a big thanks to Tony Kane for driving the bus.
