Storm Weekly Wrap! (Friday 7th May)

Storm Representative Program

Weekly Summary: Friday 7th May 2010

Welcome to our weekly wrap of the Bellarine Storm Basketball Representative Program.

Under 12 Girls

Score: Bellarine 8 lost to Hawthorn 25

Top Scorers: Hayley Grasso (6pts) Carly Sanders (2pts)

MVP: Holly Montgomery and Haley Grasso - Struggled to decide between Hayley and Holly. Holly put in a fantastic effort in both offence and defense chasing down the ball whenever it was in her vicinity and strong ball handling. Hayley’s game came together and was an excellent offensive player both shooting and passing and also her normal aggressive self in defense.

Game Report: Hawthorn were a very good team and put a lot of pressure on the girls. The girls played a great all round game but couldn’t make there shots. Great game from both teams.

Under 12 Boys

Score: Bellarine 45 defeated Eltham (2) 28

Under 14 (A) Girls

Score: Bellarine 44 defeated Keilor (2) 19

Top Scorers: Hannah Barakat (14pts) Eleisha Montgomery (8pts) Mystique Whitehill (7pts)

MVP: Hannah Barakat - Hannah continues to show improvement in her basketball game she shows a genuine interest in learning and is always trying to find new ways to improve her game.

Game Report: After last weeks tight tussle it was good to see the girls bring their A game to tonight’s game. We are trying to develop our game around tight strong defense and in the first half we gave Keilor nothing and it showed offensively. The second half turned into a bit of a scrappy affair and we know that we have to improve week in week out if we are going to be true contenders. Over all a good win and we are looking forward to the weeks ahead.

Under 14(B) Girls

Score: Bellarine 26 defeated Werribee (4) 19

Top Scorers: Emily Baker (12pts) Sherri Panayi (8pts)

Game Report: This week we were back at home.  The girls played well and had a good win. Werribee played a zone which we struggled with in the 1st half.  Our defense was strong all night, with some excellent blocks by Finlay Neal. In the 2nd half the girls kept up their strong defense and improved in offence.  The passing and teamwork was a lot better and there were some great steals and fast breaks.  There was also a great hustle and dive on the loose ball by Emily Baker.  Unfortunately we had an injury during the game and lost one of our quick players, but to the girls credit they stepped up and kept playing well.  Well done girls on another great win.
