Bellarine Storm – VJBL Wrap

X-Over Games Round 3

Friday 8th March 2013

Round 2 of VC

Under 14 (1) Girls

Bellarine Storm (69) defeated Keilor (39)

Best Players: Georgia McKinnon (20pts and 7 rebounds)

Top Scorers: Georgia (20), Raini (11), Teagan (11) and Eve (9)

Game summary: It was a tight start to the game, with both teams scoring goal for goal almost until half time; and both sides offering good defence and difficult zones to break. After some motivating half time direction from Coach Matthews, the third quarter had our guards finding the necessary gaps to drive through and our tall girls posting consistently and converting well. The girls were able to stretch their lead in the fourth quarter and were rewarded with the win.

Next Week: Bellarine v Melbourne - 7.00pm at Werribee

Under 14 (2) Girls

Bellarine Storm 2 (24) defeated Bacchus Marsh (17)

Best Players: Zoe Saunders, Mali Herzer and Vanessa Marsh

Top Scorers: Vanessa Marsh (6) and Zoe Saunders (6)

Game summary: A much stronger, better drilled team in Bacchus Marsh allowed the Bellarine girls to ‘step up’ and at times were challenged and beaten in defence as never before. Explosive turnovers by Zoe Saunders (best on court) provided Bellarine with an unattainable lead and another win although still only scoring at 50%. The girls however remain solid in offense and thanks to coach Eric, will continue to work hard at training and commence the Championship Season this Friday keen and confident.

Next Week: Bellarine 2 v Craigieburn - 8.40pm at Craigieburn

Under 14 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm 2 (36) defeated Coburg (33)

Best Players: K Murhpy, B Butler and C McEvoy

Top Scorers: H Goodier (18), T Ness (6) B Butler (5)

Game summary: Finished off the grading season on a high. A close game but held on strongly to the end.

Next Week: Bye

Under 14 (3) Boys

Bellarine Storm 3 (26) defeated by Geelong 2 (41)

Best Players: Riley Coghlan, Isaac Scerri, Ben Slorach

Top Scorers: Riley Coghlan (6), Isaac Scerri (6) and Jeb Taylor-Hewson (4)

Game summary: Geelong (2) was the tallest team we had played to date and the boys struggled to break through the tall timber defence. After getting off to a slow start, we were down by 18 points at halftime. Our second half was much more effective which resulted in us outscoring the opposition, but left us still trailing behind at the final siren. The boys have had a great pre-season, only losing 2 games out of the 10 with our likely position to be in Regional 2 or 3 in the Championship season.
