Bellarine Storm – VJBL Wrap

Grading Phase 2

Friday 15th February 2013

Under 12 Girls

Bellarine Storm (11) defeated by Ringwood (29)

Best Players: Sophie Milsome, Mieke Tatlock and Alaina Peacock

Top Scorers: Sophie Milsome (4), Alaina Peacock (3)

Game summary: We started the game well, scoring six points very early in the game. Unfortunately Ringwood responded with strong aggressive defence which we weren’t prepared for, and made some errors that allowed them to score some easy points. We were unable to score for quite some time, not through lack of trying, but in the end Ringwood were just too strong.

Next Week: Cross Over game - to be advised

Best Case Finish: Metro 2

Worst Case Finish: Metro 2

Under 12 (1) Boys

Bellarine Storm (44) defeated by Sherbrooke (47)

Best Players: Mac Stephens, Jesse Hart and Ben Crombie

Top Scorers: Mac Stephens (16), Paddy White (8) and Ben Crombie (8)

Game summary: As was the case with recent games, Sherbrooke’s height advantage allowed their offence more opportunities to score but credit to the usual gutsy performance from the Bellarine boys who remained within a few points throughout the game with only one interchange player. An excellent defensive game from Jesse Hart, teaming with a solid performance in offense by Mac Stephens, Paddy White and Ben Crombie created many baskets. Overall a good effort by an undermanned team!

Next Week: Cross Over game - to be advised

Best Case Finish: Metro 2

Worst Case Finish: Regional

Under 12 (2) Boys

Bellarine Storm (25) defeated by Diamond Valley 3 (52)

Best Players: Kai Keenan and Eoin McNolty

Top Scorers: Kai Keenan (10)

Game summary: Bellarine started slowly only scoring two points in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the boys give an indication of their potential when the outscored Diamond Valley 14 to 10. Unfortunately they were unable to maintain this intensity and stopped them from consistently scoring. Highlight for the boys was their defence. When all of the boys were focused on their man Diamond Valley found it very difficult to score and 100% concentration is an area to focus on for next week. Another pleasing aspect was the improved passing that led to a number of assists.

Next Week: Cross Over game - to be advised

Best Case Finish: North West

Worst Case Finish: North West

Under 14 (1) Girls

Bellarine Storm (42) defeated Diamond Valley (40)

Best Players: Raini Matthews, Eve Braslis, Holly Milsome

Top Scorers: Raini Matthews (11), Eve Braslis (10) and Holly Milsome (10)

Game summary: Bellarine Storm looked the stronger team from the outset. Their speed, discipline, tight defence and strong rebounding meant Diamond Valley had to work very hard for every basket, possession and rebound. The girls led by up to 13 points but looked tired in the final few minutes of the game, when DV made a bid to close the gap but were unsuccessful in snatching the win.

Next Week: Bye next week

2013 VJBL Division: Victorian Championship

Under 14 (2) Girls

Bellarine Storm 2 (48) defeated Craigieburn 2 (17)

Best Players: Vanessa Marsh, Sadie Longden and Zoe Saunders

Top Scorers: Zoe Saunders (14), Vanessa Marsh (11) and Mali Herzer (9)

Game summary: Bellarine’s speed and agility remained unmatched throughout the game enabling their offense to create many opportunities during each of the four quarters. Excellent defense from Sadie Longden in the first half subdued the determined Craigieburn offense and although only scoring 50%, Bellarine still managed a comfortable win.

Bellarine Storm 2 (29) defeated by Collingwood 3 (42)

Best Players: Charlie McEvoy, Hamish Goodier and Blade Butler

Top Scorers: Hamish Goodier (10) and Charlie McEvoy (9)

Game summary: The Storm Boys started very slowly tonight, our defence didn’t work the way I wanted but the boys worked their hearts out in the heat not letting Collingwood 3 get away with an easy win.

Under 14 (3) Boys

Bellarine Storm 3 (42) defeated Corio Bay 2 (39)

Best Players: Jeb Taylor-Hewson, Aiden McKenzie, Riley Coghlan and Charlie Scott

Top Scorers: Jeb Taylor-Hewson, Aiden McKenzie and Riley Coghlan

Game summary: Bellarine 3 started slow against a pumped up Corio Bay 2 opposition. Corio Bay showed a lot of skill shooting several three-pointers in the first half, which had them leading by 5 points for most of the first three quarters of the game. The highlights of the game included some amazing steals form the Bellarine team in the final quarter which helped them level the score. Bellarine’s defensive intensity and fitness helped them outrun the opposition in the final quarter to get up and win in a very exciting finish.

Bellarine Storm (40) defeated by Warragul (51)

Best Players: Joshua Prendergast

Game summary: Not our best game, our shots were not going in. To the boys credit they kept their head up and did not let the game blow out. We think we could have beaten them had we been able to capitalise on our shots for goal. Looking forward to a much better game next week
