Basketball WA Go for 2&5 State Championships
Name Change – The tournament will now be referred to as the Basketball WA State Championships or BWA State Championships. We want to reflect a “whole of state” approach to the largest basketball tournament in WA. We hope to continue to open this tournament up to all affiliated associations throughout the state.
Dates – due to the addition of the Under 11 age group in 2009 (as a lead in to Under 12 WABL) and the popularity of the competition, we will be segmenting the age groups over the three weekends.
In 2009 we saw the first weekend of the tournament have to introduce a Friday night fixture and also games at alternative venues to meet the demand. In addition there is space across some other weekends that we can maximise. We are also segmenting age groups to allow players to play across multiple age groups if necessary to fill in some gapes. As a result the following dates will be run in 2010.
November 27 &28 – Under 11 & 13
December 4 & 5 – Under 12 & 15
December 11 & 12 – Under 14, 17 & 19
We will review the above dates again at the end of the 2010 BWA State Championships after seeing how they worked.
