Basketball WA Opens Recreation Centre in Shark Bay

Basketball WA were recently invited to Shark Bay to help celebrate the opening of their new Community, Sport and Recreation Centre, which will give the community access to sport and recreational activities in a new fantastic facility.

Basketball WA was represented by 7 SBL players who worked within the local community at the local school and also hosted coaching clinics for the local children and adults. The clinics were a great way for the community to get a better understanding of structured basketball drills and also for them to engage with the players and ask any questions on basketball. The opening of the recreation centre was a massive success with a great turnout and support from the local community. The highlight for many was the exhibition match between the SBL players and then inviting the local community to play alongside them, the Shire of Shark Bay definitely gave our SBL players a good run for their money!

The weekend also played host to the Gascoyne Games, which our SBL players helped coach the teams and referee. It was a fantastic tournament, with representation from all over the Shire along with players from Carnarvon attending to play in the games. The standard of basketball was very high, with some close competitive games and slam dunk competitions held throughout the day!

Basketball WA would like to thank the SBL players who helped make the weekend a great success; Tevin Jackson     (Willetton Tigers), Kyle Armour (Willetton Tigers), Damien Scott (Cockburn), Ryan Woodbury (Stirling), Julia Bell (Stirling), Bridget Henderson (Stirling) & Dan Donaldson (Stirling Coach). Thank you also the Shire of Shark Bay for inviting us to celebrate the opening of their recreation centre and the Gascoyne Games with them. We hope that after our visit the Shire is excited about basketball and will help further develop the sport in the area.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
