We're through Round 8 of the AFL Ontario season and one thing rings true; Dan Jackson's coaching is a curse.
The former Richmond B&F has appeared at Rebels, Blues and Demons training's over the last month which each team going on to lose their game that week.
Thinking of having Jacko out to practice? Think again...
Here's some highlights and lowlights of AFLO Round 8:
Kangaroos 10.9.69 d Rebels 7.10.52
Highlight: A finals-like tussle on Friday night with both teams close to full strength. It's always a positive when a Friday night game in July sees such strong numbers, when most teams are struggling to field full sides. Great for footy.
Lowlight: The Rebels allowing 5 goals to the Red Dragon, Emile Studham. The guy has a grand total of zero knees that work. We'll be hearing about this one for a while.
Dingos 11.16.82 d Blues 7.1.43
Highlight: The Blues were competitive on the scoreboard and hung with the Dingos most of the day in Goedheer's first game in a month. Good to see the short man back after a neck injury, which we don't wish on anyone.
Lowlight: Dingos forwards falling for the 'chewy on ya boot!' sledge, kicking 16 behinds.
Wildcats 13.11.89 d Demons 3.2.20
Highlight: The Forfeit Derby went ahead which is a win for everyone. The Wildcats have kept their chins up all season despite low numbers and deservedly took the 4 points. Nine individual goalkickers for the Catters.
Lowlight: Like the Curse of the Bambino which plagued the Boston Red Sox for generations, the Jackson Curse struck the Demons down this weekend.
Gargoyles 13.6.84 d Hawks 6.6.42
Highlight: The Gargoyles needed a win to stay in finals contention and they crushed the Hawks by 7 goals! There might be a new law firm in town with Matthews O'Regan slotting ten between them. Can you imagine Kerm being your lawyer?
Lowlight: Two losses in a row and the wheels have fallen off the Hawks, only kicking 1 goal to half time and not even putting a teamsheet on sportingpulse. Things aren't looking as rosy as they were three weeks ago for the defending champs.
Swans 6.8.44 d Eagles 6.5.41
Highlight: A miraculous forth quarter comeback by Ottawa steals the 4 points and puts the Swans equal top for the timebeing. Had the Eagles held on they would have gone top. It's becoming a logjam at the top of the AFLO ladder.
Lowlight: This loss could hurt the Eagles with their run home featuring games against the Rebels, Hawks, Blues and Gargoyles.
And we're into the last 1/3 of the season with a five team battle at the top of the table. It's getting interesting in Ontario!
