Footy Heads! The day we have all been waiting for all season is finally upon us!
This what everyone works for, all the blood, sweat and tears. Looking to be a huge day at Humber South and we may even get good weather, which is unheard of in recent years! Here is my preview for the #AFLOGF games..
Div 1 - Hawks v Blues
Well I don't think anyone really imagined it would be the Hawks and Blues in the Grand Final at the end of August. But safe to say these two strong teams had confidence in their abilities to make it to the big dance and have saved their best football for last.
It is no secret that the Hawks Big 3 is the key to this game for both sides. For the Hawks they need to be up and about and getting plenty of the footy. Shutts doesn't and can't do much if he doesn't have the ball in his hands which comes from getting good delivery so the Blues will need to "shutt-down" Dullard and Killa. Question is who do they have to take them to dry up that supply? Who is the best match up?
Really not sure if there's any Canadians with that abilty in the Blues side? Doc will be good to give one a hard time but then who does he take? Will they try to go head to head? Probably not a good idea. Willsy doesn't play tight enough to take Killa. It's an uphill battle in the midfield for the Blues!
Storm has been solid across half back for the Blues so he will provide plenty of rebound with Armstrong who has been great since returning from IC. Rutledge will take Shutts and give him a hard time, but I back Shutts in that battle. The Blues will also need someone to watch guys like Cragg and Bowley too who will be keen for big games.
The Blues forward line I am really not sold on but in saying that the Hawks defence isn't the greatest. They control the ball through the midfield and put the pressure on from there, causing bad entries and turn overs. Shorty will cause problems but I think Hauesler will take him, no one else will match for pace. Lock will have his work cut out with Willis.
Then where does Stirling end up? Forward or back? Is Royle playing this week? The way this game is going to line up will be very interesting but I think overall the Hawks have the best spread. The Blues will have to ensure they don't get jumped early and keep grinding. It should be a ripping game of footy to finish a great year.
Phantom Prediction - Hawks 22 points
Div 2 - Rebels v Dingos
Really difficult one to pick, I went with the Dingos in the Qualifying Final but they were soundly beaten. They then proceeded to destroy the Blues in the Prelim so who is going to show up on the day is a mystery.
Considering the Rebels finished on top with only one defeat would make me think of picking them. But then again the Dingos have won 2 or 3 Division 2 Premierships in a row. They will want to continue with their winning ways! This is really coming to a toss of the coin...
Phantom Prediction - Rebels by 1 point
Women's Divison - Wildcats v Swans
Should be a great game with plenty of Northern Lights IC Stars lining up on both sides. The Wildcats have had a week to nurse their injuries and prepare after a win in Ottawa secured the spot in the Grand Final. Meanwhile the Swans had to fight it out against the Blues in the wet and came away with a victory.
Another tough one to pick, I think this could be a really great game and expect to see some really hard hitting from both sides. Aimee Legault from the Swans and Danielle Comolli from the Wildcats will be leading that charge.
On experience I think the Wildcats will be ready to go, they've played in the last 2 Grand Finals and lost both to the Demons. They will want to get over that curse and bring some silverware back down the QEW. The Swans have some experience in their line up too and their trophy cabinet also lacks silverware. Question is who will want it more on the day?
Phantom Prediction - Wildcats by 6 points
