Happy Friday Footy Heads! Your faithful Phantom is back again with a round of predictions for week of Preliminary #AFLOFinals!
This week we've already had one Final played which was the Division 2. Apparently no one wanted to let old Phantom know so I could predict. Sorry about that Footy Heads but congratulations anyway to the Toronto Dingos on making the Grand Final in Division 2 yet again.
Another big week of footy coming up in Ontario with only 3 games still to play! Ottawa will host a Preliminary Finals Double Header against the Blues, how exciting for both clubs. Here are my predictions
Division 1
Swans v Blues
This is definitely going to be a hard hitting game and whoever wins the most contested hard balls will likely run out the winner! The Blues are much improved in recently weeks especially since guys like Armstrong and Rutledge have returned from Australia better players. They grinded out a 1 point victory over the Gargoyles but will need to kick a much bigger score than they did last week to overcome the Swans.
The Swans had a wake up call in Round 12 and came out firing last week taking down the previously unbeaten Rebels in fashion. Kozlowski and Strom were welcomed back into the side and this week they will welcome 2014 League Best and Fairest Winner Tom Stafford back. He's been out with injury but word I've received from the Swans camp is that he is good to go.
Hard to beat the Swans at home but it definitely can be done. Going on last weeks form, had to go against them.
Phantom Prediction - Swans by 30 points
Rebels v Hawks
Such a tough game to pick a winner, it will really come down to who comes to play on the day. The Hawks were considered the Flag favourites early on but had a rough run when Dullard and Killa went on holidays. Definitely some big holes to fill for any side but they are now back and firing. After taking down the Swans in Round 12 in Ottawa without Shutts and destroying the Roos last week, they are running hot and capable of anything.
The Rebels go into this game after their first loss of the season and it will be interesting to see how they respond. Disappointed in their efforts last week from what I hear they will be looking to make amends but it is certainly not going to be an easy game. They beat the Hawks early in the year so will have confidence in their ability but will need to put a better score on the board this week.
Really difficult to know who to go with here, will the Rebels have got a wake up call like the Swans? Or will they go out in straight sets? I think it will be the Hawks in an upset.
Phantom Prediction - Hawks 8 points
Women's Division
Swans v Blues
The Blues ladies travel to Ottawa to take on the Swans who went down to the Wildcats last week in a chance to go straight to a Grand Final. The Swans will be rueing at their missed opportunity but feeling confident in getting the job done with their second chance. The Blues took down the Reigning Premiers last week and have shown huge improvement throughout the season, can they seize the opportunity to sneak into a Grand Final and take down the Swans? They will definitely be up against it as I think the Swans were just rusty last week having not played in too long and probably a little over confident that it would just happen. This week they will be firing and I think the Blues lack the same level of depth.
Phantom Prediction - Swans 14 points
That's it for me this week, Footy Heads! Be sure to use the #AFLOFinals tag on those tweets!
