Footy Heads! We're back with another round of AFL Ontario footy as September and the business end of the season looms closer and closer.
While not mathematically locked in, I think the Top 6 is basically going to stay the way it is.
The Hawks may catch the Swans on points but percentage is probably too far back to take second spot. The Rebels need a win this week to lock in top spot while that two game buffer of the Roos and Blues will see them hold their positions.
The Gargoyles have done well but sitting 4th at the moment may not last long with a couple of tough games ahead, one more win could secure them a home final! Here are my predictions for #AFLOrd11!
Dingos v Eagles
Both teams can probably still mathematically make the 6 with two wins to finish the year but they would also need some luck to fall their way. The loser of this game is definitely going to be done for the season! Hard to say who will show up for this one but the Eagles have really been struggling of late. Their 3 wins came in the first half of the season so the losing streak is getting a little long.
The Dingos had a go up in Ottawa but couldn't get the job done, as few have this season. I think they will bounce back tomorrow and try to finish the season on a high. Too much run for the old Eagles.
Phantom Prediction - Dingos by 25 points
Demons v Swans
The Demons are one of the few teams to knock off the Swans having beaten them at home in Round 1 upset. I can imagine the Swans will be out for some revenge on that one and considered they haven't lost in Toronto this season, would be favourites. The Demons have struggled in recent weeks and with the absence of a couple of key players to North Wind are unlikely to snatch a win this week.
Phantom Prediction - Swans by 60 points
Wildcats v Blues
The Blues are coming off a big win over the Eagles and with September action on the line, they will be ready to go this week at Mohawk Park. When the likes of Doc, Willsy and Shorty are in the team they're a much better side. Believe this will be the last time Daws will don a Blues jumper this year while Chopper, despite big wraps, hasn't been a huge performer besides a big haul against the Cats last time.
The Wildcats have been rebuilding and getting matches into their young guys. They're much improved and taking them on at Mohawk Park is always a challenge. But with the Blues September aspirations on the line, it is hard to see them getting over the line.
Phantom Predictions - Blues
Gargoyles v Hawks
I said above that the Gargoyles have a couple of tough games ahead and this is the first one. Premiership favourites at the start of the year, the Hawks have got the Big 3 back in the side and firing and will be looking for another solid performance going into the finals. They're spot in third is fairly secure and although second is possible, so is fourth or lower if they don't keep winning.
The Gargoyles are pretty safe in the 6 now but a win could almost secure them a home final berth. They nearly took down the Hawks earlier in the year and are always tough to beat on their home ground.
Phantom Prediction - Hawks by 30 points
Rebels v Roos
Two games in Guelph on the weekend the Rebels need a win to maintain their top position while the Roos only need one win in the final two weeks to lock in a place in September. Hard to really see how the Roos are going to get over the Rebels here, they've been a bit short on numbers in recent weeks. After some aggro events in the previous meeting, both sides will be pretty fired up for this game! Lets hope for both sides sake they can behave as September is very close!
Phantom Prediction - Rebels by 30 points
Womens
Demons v Swans
I seem to have been screwing up the women's predictions in recent weeks and no one has been shy of letting me know about it on twitter. It's not intentional ladies, I do apologise! I will stand by my previous comments about it being difficult to pick the women's at the moment as so many of the stars are away in Australia.
In this one the Dees are not the side they used to be and missing some key players. The Swans are missing a large contingent but have some solid numbers to fill the void. Winning this game means finishing on top for the Swans so a little extra incentive for the girls!
Phantom Prediction - Swans by 24 points
Wildcats v Blues
This actually is a fairly important game of footy because if the Cats win and the Swans lose, the Cats will take top spot which could mean a home final! Other than that this is basically a nothing game as the Blues have locked themselves into a spot in September action with their 3 wins.
On their home turf and with top spot potentially up for grabs, I will have to go with the Cats this week.
Phantom Prediction - Wildcats by 15 points
