Working with Children Checks
Persons over the age of 18 years engaging in child-related work are required by WA Government legislation to hold a Working with Children card. This also applies to all under-age Team coaches and managers.
There are several exemption categories however, so please check what these are.
NB:-
If a person is exempt, they must not apply for a WWC Check.
Application forms are obtainable from Australia Post Offices. People who commence working with children can start prior to receiving their card upon presentation of the receipt of their application for the Card. The cost of the Check is $10 for volunteers.
Basketball WA recommends that all coaches and managers obtain the card as attendance at the 2020 Country Championships will require this – being a 2 day Tournament and teams may be staying overnight, regardless of the type of accommodation or how many children are involved.
In addition, BWA recommends every Affiliated Association maintains a register of WWC Card holders/numbers/expiry dates/validity. I have attached a template for you to use to enter these details. Each Association will be required to submit this list when nominating teams to participate in the 2020 Country Championships. If you require assistance completing this template, please contact me.
