AGM Details

The 2016 Annual General Meeting of Basketball Northern Territory (BNT) will be held at:

• 2.00 pm, Sunday November 20, 2016
• Basketball NT office, 25 Vanderlin Drive, Wanguri

Board Composition

Basketball NT is governed by a Board of up to seven directors in accordance with its constitution. Eight of the directors are elected and one may be appointed by the Board. Terms of appointment are either one or two years. The Chairperson is elected by the Board.

There are two Directors positions whose appointment will continue until the 2017 AGM with six positions to be elected onto the Board at the 2017 AGM.

Ultimately Basketball NT would Directors with an interest and passion for basketball. To ensure the Board has a broad mix of skills to lead the organisation forward we seek to fill vacant Director positions with candidates with demonstrated skills and experience in one or more of the following;

• Finance
• Business & Commerce
• Marketing & Public Relations
• Technical Basketball Knowledge ie. knowledge of FIBA rules & officiating standards
• Legal
• Governance & Policy

Ideally these Directors will each reflect a different one, or more, of each of these areas. We would be particularly interested in candidates with a strong corporate network to aid fundraising and business development activities. As the Basketball NT Board has the option to appoint a ninth Director this will enable the addition of a skill set above that may be missing.

Director Nominations

Nominations are called for the six Director positions on the Board. If you have a desire to help strengthen basketball in urban and remote areas of the NT and have demonstrated skills and experience in one or more of the areas above Basketball NT welcomes your nomination. Candidates for a Director must complete the nomination form and email the form to Basketball NT’s Executive Officer at executiveofficer@nt.basketball.net.au by 6.00 pm on Sunday November 13,

The Board

The Board meets around 10 times per year, currently on Wednesday evenings.

Participation on the Board carries significant responsibility. The Board operates in collegial manner and need active directors, who will attend all meetings, read the papers with care, contribute to discussion from their perspective, and ask questions. Professional development opportunities are available to Board members.

There may be a need in some instances to be involved on a specific project or subcommittee.

Objectives of Basketball NT

Under its Constitution the Objects of Basketball NT are:

(a)  to be responsible for the strategic planning and direction setting for basketball in the Northern Territory;

(b)  promote, encourage, advance and assist with the administration of basketball throughout the Northern Territory

(c)  represent the interests of basketball and basketball participants within the NT at National level

(d)  encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values and promote the health and safety of Members and all other participants in basketball in the Northern Territory

(e)  assist with the start-up of associations not affiliated with BNT to apply for affiliation

(f)   promote the economic, strength and stability of BNT, increase the level of services to the Members and basketball in the Northern Territory;

(g)  advance the operations and activities of BNT throughout the Northern Territory

(h)  provide individuals with the opportunity to maximise their potential by competing in the highest level of basketball possible, given their own ability

(i)    conduct territory development programs including indigenous communities, school and wheel chair

(j)    conduct NT Championships and other tournaments

(k)  ensure access to the highest level of training and development for all participants including players, coaches, game officials and administrators

(l)    disseminate all national programs, policies, codes of conduct and initiatives.
