Northern Lights coach Jason Arnold has found a unique way to fundraise for his players’ upcoming journey to the International Cup.
Arnold has discovered you can’t fundraise without breaking a few eggs, and has sacrificed his comfort for the sake of the team.
Supporters pledging $30 to the effort will have their name written on an egg to be smashed on Arnold’s head. A $60 donation will see Arnold covered in ice water while $100 gets you both – and a framed and autographed photo of the team.
Arnold says while these are the current rates, he is okay with supporters getting creative if the price is right.
“As long as my family, the players and fellow coaches are still smiling and it helps raise funds, I'm open to offers,” Arnold said.
Arnold says the IC is a “huge commitment”, with players having to take three weeks off work and paying for much of their own accommodation, transport and equipment.
“All up the trip can cost each player somewhere in the vicinity of $5000,” Arnold said.
“Some of our players are making their third trip in six years representing Canada at IC.”
