In October last year Jay Macumber spoke to Emile of the Aussie X in an effort to find out if he was running any Aussie X clinics near my apartment. Jay Macumber checked his records and told me he had one coming up at Neil McNeil boys High School- which happened to be near where Jay Macumber lived in the Beaches. Jay and Emile both thought it would be a good idea for recruiting if Jay Macumber went along to help out the Aussie X at the clinic.
So Jay Macumber took some time off from work on the Tuesday and Thursday and went along to Neil McNeil High School to help out the Aussie X instructors.
On the Friday Kien La and Shane Buzza from the Central Blues also came along to help out. After the game day stuff- Kien La presented a Northwind shirt to the best player from the days games.
At the end of the week the Blues took the names and email addresses of around 50 year 9-12 male students.
Over the last 9 months the Central Blues have had 9 Neil McNeil High School students training and playing in both the Div. 1 and DIv. 2 teams.
Four of those 17 year olds played for the North under 23 team on Canada Day and also this past Saturday as part of the 49th Parallel Cup tournament in the Canadian under 23 team. And two of them; Victor "Ocho" Cinco and Kevin "Shaft" Callender were named in the best that day.
On the Monday; Ocho was chosen to "double up" and play for the Canadian East team who were playing against the West. He played a great game on the half-forward flank and finished in the top 6 of the best for the winning East team where he got to play along-side the likes of OAFL legends, Aaron Falcioni, Frank Luissier, Matty B, Justin Settle, Chet Long, Dale Simnett and Murray Lovett.
This past weekend the Central Blues will be playing at 11am in Hamilton and for the first time in club history- will get the opportunity to play five 17 year olds in the Div. 1 against the Wild-Cats. (Victor Cinco, Kevin Callender have been playing Div. 1 all season - around 6-8 games each - Matt Keane, Arnold Quirong and Earl
Martin are all now at the level required to play in the Div. 1 team after some great training sessions and polished performances in the Div. 2) All are ready to make a big impact in this game.
In the Div. 2 exhibition game later that day against the Wild-Cats old boys- 2 other 16 year olds (Joey "Stycks" LeBouthillier and Jacob Burnett) will be representing the Central Blues.
All are students recruited from Neil McNeil High School via the Aussie X clinics.
