Event Details
Men's and women's teams and individual entries are welcome from all countries. Teams comprise a minimum of two persons and a maximum of three persons and team events will be played in a round robin format. Individual events of singles, doubles and mixed doubles will be based on knockout tournament rules, except for the first round of the singles which will be in round robin format.
The events have had tremendous support at previous Arafura Games from Asia and Australasian teams with a number of nations sending youth teams looking for international experience.
Table Tennis in 2009 will include the Oceania Paralympic Championships, which is open to all the countries of the world. The 2009 Paralympic competition has received a Factor 20 classification. Events will include a teams event, men's and women's class singles, and open singles and doubles for both wheelchair and ambulant athletes.
Competition Dates
The able-bodied teams events will commence on Sunday 10 May. The individual events will commence on Wednesday 13 May with the semi-finals and finals on Friday 15 May. The AWD competition will commence on Tuesday 12 May, commencing with the open single events, followed by team events on Wednesday 13 May. Semi-finals and finals of the class singles will be on Friday 15 May.
Classification days for AWD athletes will be on Sunday 10 & Monday 11 May.
Event Location
The tournament will be held at the Palmerston Recreation Centre, approximately 25 minutes drive from Darwin's central business district. The venue is air-conditioned, has good lighting and a wooden floor.
Event Rules
Rules and code of behaviour shall be in accordance with International Table Tennis Federation rules and regulations current at the time of the tournament.
Paralympic rules and code of behaviour shall be in accordance with International Paralympic Table Tennis Committee (IPTTC) rules and regulations current at the time of the tournament.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any dress regulations?
Dress regulations are also in accordance with the ITTF rules and regulations. Colour of clothing should be in contrast to the white ball that will be used.
What type of Ball will be used?
Balls will be 3 star ITTF approved balls.
Are there training facilities available?
Courts will be available prior to tournament.
