2011 Junior Netball Academy - Term 2

After a successful term 1, Junior Netball Academy is being offered again in Term 2!

Term 2 Junior Netball Academy will commence during the week starting Monday 16 May at three indoor venues across Wellington -

Johnsonville on Mondays inside the Johnsonville School Gym located off Morgan Street - Please note: due to lack of interest in the Advanced session we have been unable to offer the second session at 5.15pm for the first week.  Please do get in touch ASAP via email to ndo@netballwellington.co.nz or ring (04) 386 0941 to register interest if still keen to attend so we can hopefully reinstate this session!  Limited spaces are still available in Elementary session. Karori on Wednesdays inside the Karori Normal School Hall located off Donald Street - both sessions now FULL (updated 17.05.11)

Mt Cook on Thursdays inside the BPM Recreation Centre (part of Massey University Campus) located off Tasman Street - limited spaces still available (updated 17.05.11)

Be sure to get in touch early and register your interest! Groups host a maximum of 16 participants so places are limited! Registration closes Friday 13 May - registration forms are attached at the bottom of the page.

Junior Netball Academy is for keen boys and girls aged 7 to 13 years, with two skill-based groups on offer each day - one for ELEMENTARY (from beginner level up to 3 years playing netball) and the other for ADVANCED (for those 3+ years experience playing netball and showing competent level of skill).

- ELEMENTARY sessions are open to all participants who are keen to give a new sport a go or those who have just started playing netball in recent years and are keen to master the key basic netball skills and gain more confidence. Sessions begin at 4pm and go for 75 minutes.

- ADVANCED sessions are open to all participants who have played netball for more than three years and have grasped the key basic netball skills and want to expand these skills and use them at a higher skill level. Sessions begin at 5.15pm and go for 75 minutes.

The Junior Netball Academy is designed with the aim to assist players to work on the fundamental skills of netball and improve the standard of play throughout the year, while still focusing on learning through fun and team building!  Each session is fast-paced, interesting and fun and packs in as many skills as possible into the 75 minute sessions! Players are taught the importance of warm ups and warm downs, and cover movement skills and fitness, ball skills, shooting, attacking and defending. Those who are attending the Academy for the first time receive encouragement while picking up new skills whereas those that are returning to the Academy and are at a competent skill level are sure to be challenged further and build on their prior skills.  Wherever possible if numbers allow, a modified game will be played at the end of the session giving the participants the chance to get some hands on practice of the skills they have learnt during their session.
