How Do I Start Playing Saturday Netball in 2015?

CLUB INFORMATION

 This information is designed to help you if:
- You are leaving school and want to keep playing netball;
- You are shifting to Wellington and want to find a club;
- You are returning to netball after a break;
- You are wanting to get into coaching a club team.

We have grades available from serious competition tothe more social player.

Our Premier 1 competition comprising our top College and Club teams contributes to the ANZ Championship teams and Wellington LFNC team.

Our senior grades are more focused on the social player.

If you are keen to play winter netball….

…. And you want to play at a competitive level in Wellington you need to look for a club which has Premier level teams.  It is good to trial at a club which has a range of teams within each grade so that you get a feel for where you belong and slot in correctly for your skill level. Within the Netball Wellington Centre competition we have a number grades ranging from Premier 1 (top), Premier 2, Premier 3, Premier Reserve 1 down to Premier Reserve 4 followed by Senior 1 (grades A to D) and Senior 2 (grades A to C).  Check out the club websites or facebook pages listed below.  Contact the club and don’t be afraid to ask questions about coaches, club activities etc. It is important to find a club where you will feel comfortable and can play at the level that will help you develop your play. College teams play within our Premier to Premier Reserve grades and then filter through into our Collegiate 1A to 5B grades followed by our Junior Collegiate 1A to 2C grades.

And you want to play for fun and exercise you should look for a club which offers teams in senior grades and remember that when you are joining a club you are making a commitment to be part of a team for the whole season. Contact the club and don’t be afraid to ask questions about teams and club activities etc. The club may require you to attend trials. Don’t be put off as it is a good way to get a feel for how the club operates and to work out if it is what you are looking for. If you want to play a more social grade make it clear from the start so that the club can place you in the right team. It is important to find a club where you will feel comfortable and where you can play at the level which you will enjoy participating.

And you want to play with a group of friends you could approach a club and ask to enter a team under their umbrella. You will have to pay their fees and will be subject to any rules they have. We do have “member teams” which are teams playing as single team clubs. If you want to set this up you need to talk to us. The cost of affiliation is $135, and then an annual registration fee of $1700 (2015 Fees for Premier 3 - Senior 2 grade) per team for the season (fee covers 12 players). You will also need to register and purchase a uniform. Please check with Netball Wellington Centre before ordering as uniform registrations need to be approved by the Centre.

If you are new to Wellington….Check out the club websites or facebook pages below to find out about trial dates.  Feel free to contact each clubs and find out a bit more about them. If you are a representative player transferring from another region contact us so that we can add you to our talented players database and keep you in touch with player development opportunities and representative trial dates.

Bear in mind that unlike other sports, clubs in Wellington do not operate on a geographical basis or have clubrooms attached therefore it does not matter where you are living within Wellington - anyone is free to join any club they choose so long as they can travel to attend trainings & games.  These are commonlyl held either indoors at the ASB Sports Centre, 72 Kemp Street, Kilbirnie or outdoors at the Hataitai Netball Courts, 43 Ruahine Street, Hataitai however some clubs use alternative venues.  This may be a deciding factor so be sure to check training/game locations upon enquiring about trials.

Please bear in mind that the Playing Grade/s indicated above are the anticipated grades for 2015 based on final placings in 2014.  Grades may be subject to change in the instance of individual club member numbers fluctuating or decreasing from year to year.  Any new teams must attend our Senior Grading Day.  The highest starting grade for entry into our NWC Winter Competition is Senior 1A.  Teams may work their way up from there.

For those interested in playing netball at primary, intermediate or college level should contact their school Sports Coordinator for further information.

Also, Netball Wellington Centre is just one of five netball centres located within the Greater Wellington region.  Each Centre organises their own Club, Collegiate and/or Primary competitions, programmes and events to support player, coach, manager, umpire and bench official's participation in their own areas.  If not based within Wellington City feel free to make contact with the following centres:
Netball Hutt Valley Centre (covers Petone, Wainuiomata, Eastbourne, Lower and Upper Hutt)
Kapi Mana Netball Centre (covers Tawa, Whitby, Porirua, Titahi Bay)
Coastlands Netball Kapiti (covers Raumati, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Paekakariki)
Netball Wairarapa (covers Masterton, Featherston, Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough)
Each Centre organises their own Club, Collegiate and/or Primary competitions, programmes and events for players in their area.  Click on each of the links above to be redirected to their website and find out more about netball clubs on offer in these areas.

If you have any further enquiries about our Netball Wellington Centre Winter Competition contact our Games Coordinator Peter McDonald via email to games@netballwellington.co.nz

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
