National Umpire Squads Announced for 2014 

Netball New Zealand is delighted to announce the National Umpire Squads for the 2014 Netball season.

Eight umpires have been promoted into the national squads while others have cemented their positions through their performances over the season.

Ann Hay has progressed through the NZA into the ANZ Championship Tier 4 Squad after returning from family commitments and is on track to progress further. Michael Wylie has earned his spot in the NZA Squad up from the NZ Development Squad and takes his place next to experienced umpires Gareth Fowler, Tania Law and Lisa Paterson.

There are six new faces in the New Zealand Development Squad including Queenstown’s Sasha McLeod, Ken Metekingi, a promising young umpire from Palmerston North and Hamilton’s Jess Lea who now resides in Wellington. Alannah Robinson continues the strong tradition of top umpires out of Eastern Southland, while Anna Brookie returns to the fold after career and family commitments.

Umpire Emerging Talent Group Selected

The Umpire Emerging Talent Group has been selected by the New Zealand Umpire Development Group (NZUDG) with aims to provide umpires with additional support, coaching and opportunities to assist their development to National Squad level.

Umpires will predominantly be supported within their Zone environment and their development observed throughout the year.

The naming of the group is intended to increase competition for selection in all national squads, prepare umpires for the High Performance environment and retain talented umpires throughout the country.
