Sport Wellington is a charitable regional sports trust with a vision for everyone in the greater Wellington region to have a life-long involvement in sport and active recreation.  Sport Wellington's purpose is to provide region wide leadership to achieve this vision by partnering, knowledge sharing, providing expertise and influencing to bring positive change to the Wellington region.

The Green Prescription (GRx) programme is a nationwide Ministry of Health initiative to encourage, motivate and support those who would not normally participate in physical activity, and whose health will benefit from exercise and nutrition education. A GRx is written information for a patient to be more active as part of their health management.

Sport Wellington is leading the further development of the Green Prescription programme, to offer specialised support for children and their whānau.

Sport Wellington requires Healthy Lifestyle Co-ordinators roles (max. 2.0FTE) with the potential for these roles to be flexible between 20 – 40 hours per week.  These roles will be engaging with referrals from across the Wellington region with our main office in Thorndon Quay being the likely base. Other base locations are possible and will be discussed with successful candidates.

These roles are delivery roles that will be expected to be working with the community, in the community, and with some hours outside of a normal working day.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

To engage and support children aged between 3-18 and their whānau for improved physical activity, nutrition and health literacy.

Key Tasks include:

  • Regular contact with referred whānau and the provision of appropriate resources, education and opportunities.
  • Delivery of group education, physical activity or nutrition sessions.
  • Data entry and support for reporting and data capturing as required.
  • Support the Lead – Child and Whānau to build and maintain community connections for the benefit of referred children and their whanau.

Essential skills, experience and attributes are:

  • A qualification and or relevant experience in nutrition, physical recreation, health and/or health promotion related to adults, children or special populations
  • A strong understanding of Māori and/or Pasifika cultures
  • Awareness and experience working with diverse ethnic groups 
  • An understanding of health promotion principles and practices
  • Communication (listening, verbal and written)
  • Presentation skills
  • Computer and technical literacy
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Full driver's license

The ideal person for this role would be an intelligent, confident self-starter and a team player who is passionate about making a difference for whānau and communities, and educating and supporting others.
