Australia into semi finals of U25 Women's Wheelchair Basketball World Championship

The Australian U25 Women’s Wheelchair basketball team has won through to the semi finals after a tight and hard-fought win over Japan in the quarter finals of the 2011 U25 Women’s Wheelchair World Championship in Canada.

The Aussies got off to great start, leading by 14-6 at quarter time with Amber Merritt and Cobi Crispin doing much of the damage.

But Japan hit back in the second, shaving five points off the lead to head into half-time three points behind Australia, setting up for an exciting third and fourth period.

The second half was a genuine arm wrestle, with both sides trying to gain the ascendency. Three points separated the sides for most of the second half, Australia sneaking out to as many as seven in front with Japan quickly pulling them back.

Despite the fight from the Japanese side, Australia hung on to record a memorable three-point victory.

Cobi Crispin top scored for Australia with 21 points, while pulling in 11 rebounds. Bridie Kean added 13 points and eight rebounds.

For Japan Mari Amomoto was impressive finishing with 29 points and 12 rebounds.

Australia 56 (Crispin 21) def Japan 53 (Amomoto 29)
