WNWBL Round 1 Wrap-up

The 2011 Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League kicked off with some outstanding team and individual performances across the ten games played in Dandenong on the weekend, with the hometown team VIC Dandenong Rangers shooting to the top of the table with an impressive unbeaten round.

The VIC Dandenong Rangers won all four of their games, with Cobi Crispin and Leanne Del Toso leading the team in scoring, while Shelley Chaplin finished the round as league-leader in assists.

The To Be Active Western Stars finished with a record of 3-1 from their games, led by Amber Merritt whose 25.3 points per game led the league for the round.

The Stacks Goudkamp Bears finished the weekend with a 2-2 record, including a victory in the closest game of the round, a 47-42 point win over the Sydney University Flames.

Behind the rebounding dominance of Sarah Stewart, the Flames took one win from their four games, while league newcomer the Minecraft Comets battled hard and despite the impressive scoring output of Bridie Kean, will have to wait until Round 2 for a shot at their first victory.

The action now shifts to Perth for Round 2 of the WNWBL beginning on the first weekend of July at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre.
