Wheelchair Basketball finds a home in Central Australia
Five-time Paralympic Liesl Tesch and former Glider Alison Mosely were on hand to promote the sport and show the locals how much fun they can have with the sport.
Students from Acacia Hill Special School, Centralian Middle School and Clontarf Academy took part in the session that included a number of open sessions for adults.
Twelve wheelchairs have found a new home with ASBA thanks to Disabled Sports Association NT (DSANT) and also the NT Minister for Sport and Recreation, Karl Hampton, has approved a request for a small amount of financial assistance to cover some travel expenses and the wheelchair freight.
The new regular social competition of wheelchair basketball will be held on Sunday nights at Traeger Park Stadium beginning on May 2.
ASBA Development Office Sam Fisher will be guiding the program including the social competition after the hard work of Fisher, Benita Bittner from Sport and Rec NT, Basketball NT, Disabled Sports Association NT and Basketball Australia to bring the sport to the region.
