Magic Teams at Country Championships

The under 14 and under 18 Country Championships were held on the March Long weekend, with Millicent having 5 teams participate.

The under 14 boys team played in the Division 2 competition over the weekend. They had some success, finishing top in their pool and winning their qualifying final. unfortunately Mildura were too strong in the Semi final, knocking the Magic boys out of the competition.

There were 2 under 14 girls teams from Millicent playing over the weekend. One team in Division 1 and the other in Division 3. The Division 1 team had a great start to the weekend, winning close games and going in to double overtime against Broken Hill. The girls made it through to the semi final, but went down to great Southern by 1 point.  The Division 3 girls also had some success over the weekend, winning one of their minor round games, but were defeated in the qualifying final.

The under 18 Men's team were in Division 2 and had 2 wins for the weekend, but were defeated in their cross over final.

The Under 18 Women's team played in Division 1 and had a shaky start to the weekend, but re-grouped to have 4 wins and 2 losses for the weekend. They were unlucky not to make the grand final, missing out by 1 point and finishing third for the weekend.

The Under 12 and 16 Country Championships were held 2 weeks later. Millicent had 6 'Magic' teams compete.

The under 12 girls had a great start to their weekend, playing in Division 1 and winning all their games on the Saturday, finishing top of their pool. On the Sunday they won thier qualifying final, but were not strong enough in the semi final, losing to Port Lincoln.

The under 12 boys had 2 teams participate. One team was in Division 2 and the other in Division 4. Both teams had great success over the weekend, winning all their games on the Saturday and making it trough to the Grand Finals on the Sunday. The Division 2 boys played Barossa Valley and were unable to repeat their Saturday performance, losing the game and finishing Runner Up. The Division 4 team had a similar result, losing their Grand Final to Keith.

The Under 16 boys played in a combined Division 1/2 competition. They won their first gme against Whyalla on the Saturday and were narrowly defeated in their next 2 games, putting them into the Division 2 playoffs. On the Sunday morning, the team were out of luck, losing the qualifying final against Strathalbyn.

The under 16 girls competition was also a combined Division 1/2 competition. The girls won 2 out of 3 games on the Saturday, putting themm into the division 1 playoffs. The girls won their qualifying final against Port Augusta on the Sunday but lost their semi final against Mt Gambier by 1 point.

The second under 16 girls team played in the Division 4 competition and won 4 out of 5 games, and making to the Grand Final. Unfortunately the Adelaide Plains team were too strong, with the Millicent girls finishing Runner Up.
