Phillip Sutherland Award Winner

The Phillip Sutherland 21 and under Memorial award has again been awarded to Clint Gallio for outstanding service to The Millicent Basketball Association.

Phillip Sutherland was a young basketball player who was not a naturally gifted but he demonstrated by example to all those around him that if you want to achieve you can, if you apply yourself and work hard. Unfortunately Phillip died prematurely but while he was alive he set a great example for young players and it is for this reason this award is presented as encouragement to a young person who contributes most to improve basketball and their personal development in the sport.

THE RECIPIENT OF THIS AWARD IS TO BE A YOUNG PERSON 21 YEARS OLD OR UNDER ON THE 31ST MARCH ON THE YEAR THE AWARD IS SELECTED.   THE NOMINATED PERSONS MUST HAVE CONTRIBUTED TIRELESSLY AND UNSELFISHLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF BASKETBALL IN THE MILLICENT DISTRICT IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

Clint Gallio has provided Millicent Basketball with another outstanding year of service and he is a very deserving winner of this prestigious award. He has contributed to Basketball in Millicent in many ways that include coaching an under 14 boys junior team, Millicent Magic junior under 12 town team, who won a division 1 title at the SA Country Championships, organizing a senior team, refereeing many games both junior and senior basketball. Throughout 2010/ 2011 he has played in our domestic competition and also in the SECBL A grade league between Millicent and Mt Gambier. This year Clint also became a committee person on the Millicent Basketball committee. He has also volunteered to referee on many other occasions including many weekends at tournaments in Millicent and elsewhere at other tournaments that Millicent attends. Clint has also volunteered to help at working bees which includes everything from painting to cleaning.

The local Association has been very lucky to have Clint continue his work again this year and appreciate him giving up many hours of his time putting back into the sport.
