Lady Hawks Player Profile

Age: 19   Nickname: As of last year I landed the nick-name  “Sticks” “Sticks-aroo”  and by the looks of it will be sticking around.

Uni/Work:UWA studying Biochemistry and Physiology (2nd year).

Why basketball? In primary school I was faced with the decision of netball or basketball. I couldn’t deal with the 3 feet rule in netball so I chose basketball.  I’m very happy with my decision. I can’t picture myself standing still in a skirt in the “D” on a netball court. Basketball is a great game, which requires athleticism, skill and teamwork. To be able to work as a team in developing these areas of the game is a greatly fulfilling activity which I love.

How many years have you been playing? I’ve been playing basketball since I was in primary school where I played for Clare-Cott at the old Perry Lakes stadium with my Dad as the coach. We may not have won any games but I loved every minute of it and my dad was a great coach.  In high school I joined the great Hawks and have been with them ever since.

Thoughts on the season so far? Our Lady Hawks team have a great bunch of girls and coaches. If we use all of our resources correctly we are very capable of going all the way. Throughout the season it has been evident that when we play as a confident and united team, we can do anything. We have all the right materials with strong players, dedicated coaches, a hardworking manager and very supportive fans so all we need to do now is finish the season strong by playing the game at our best.

Favourite players/inspirational people: One of my favourite and most inspirational players would be Lauren Jackson. Her talent and leadership for not only her team but also the whole of the Australian Olympic team is awesome. There are not many individuals at the age of 14 being picked for the U20 National Australian touring team.   Also some of my favourite players closer to home include our own Rosie Tobin and Nat Burton. These girls sure do teach how to go after those boards and go up strong under the ring.

Favourite moments playing: Playing out the back with my brothers, making it to the Grand final in D-league last year, our games this year in SBL when we play really well and playing U20 Nationals in Canberra.

3 things you're good at other than basketball: Using my long limbs for other activities including rowing, running and swimming.

8 of your favourite things you couldn't live without: Janes lolly box at basketball, the People Mover, the beach, Sunny days, my family, my runners, laughs and of course good food (lots of it).

If you could hang out with any 5 people in the world, who would they be?

Bret and Jamie (Flight of the Concords), David Attenborough, Steve Carell and Genie from Aladdin.

Favourite quote: “That’ll do donkey that’ll do” (Shrek)

Anything else you'd like to add? “Lets go Hawks!!”
