Hawks Selected For U16 Australian Championships
Basketball Western Australia has selected three Perry Lakes Hawks WABL players to represent the State at the 2009 Australian Under 16 Championships. Lucy Stewart, Monique Hague-Smith & Erika Perret will compete in the Women’s Metro team in the Under 16 Championships, which are to be held at the Ulverstone Sports & Leisure Centre in Tasmania from the 11th-18th of July.
From the competitive try-outs, selectors chose a squad and the players have since trained as a team over the last few months. Basketball WA announced the final ten players for the team in the lead up to the upcoming Championships.
Perry Lakes Hawks WABL coach Shane Perret, who coaches all three girls in the WA Basketball League, said the girls’ selection in the team will be of great benefit to them as they are always training and playing with high intensity and this will help them cope with any future endeavours at higher levels.
“It is not only a basketball adventure but a real life experience for them. They have put in a lot of hard work to make this team and hopefully will be rewarded,” said Shane.
Shane has also been named as Assistant Coach for the Women’s Metro team at the Championships.
Also chosen from Hawks to represent the State are two of our referees, Blaine Kraplijanov and Travis Stewart.
