Hawks wraps re Redbacks

Men 15 Runners Up, Redback Classic 2009

15 Women Wrap, comments by Coach Craig Clatworthy

The U15 Girls started the carnival slowly, but became better with each game. The offences started to work better; the defence was always good but got stronger with each game.

In the grand final we played Mandurah; the second time we played them in the carnival. The first game we beat them by 12 points and in the grand final the margin was 24.

Congratulations to the girls for a good carnival and as a team we are looking forward to the WABL season.

15 Men Wrap, comments by Assistant Coach Glenn Brittan

This was our fourth final in a row in the last four carnivals, but our entry into the finals did not come without its off field trials as we had to rise above being in a very difficult pool and needed to request a recount to ensure our playoff spot after a 3 way head to head finish.

After a slow start to the carnival, the team again played some improving basketball to overcome the Magic and an excellent effort against the Tigers.  A hiccup effort followed against the Senators where we went down by 3 points and then an excellent team win over the Cougars.

The Grand Final saw the Hawks up by 1 at the half after a 3 pointer on the buzzer, but a few minutes lapse cost us the silverware when the Wolves opened up an early 5 point lead which couldn't be erased by the final buzzer.

18.2 Men Wrap, comments by Coach Tom Garlepp

The 18/2 men had an interesting weekend. The boys played two games on Sunday and recorded two 2 point losses to East Perth and Eastern Suns in games that were definitely winnable.

Monday began with a 10 point loss to Willetton which was pretty disappointing for everyone involved but the boys bounced back playing hard nosed Hawks basketball and beat the Redbacks by 10 points in the final game for the weekend.
