Deanna Smith selected for Opals tour of Europe and China
The Perry Lakes Hawks extend their congratulations to Deanna Smith on her recent selection in the Opals team to tour Europe and China. The Opals will undertake a series of matches as part of the experience necessary for the team in preparation for forthcoming World Championships.
Deanna has been in outstanding form over a prolonged period and her form since returning to Australia in 2008 can not be faulted, starting with her MVP performance in the WSBL in 2008, her inclusion in the WNBL Allstar 5 in 2008-2009 and her recent stellar form with the Perry Lakes Lady Hawks.
Deanna is absolutely delighted and understandably very proud with this recent selection and emphasises that this is not an overnight success. The work ethic that she has displayed in becoming an Opal is second to none and this extends way back beyond the limited highlights mentioned above. Deanna has worked hard on overcoming injury (even during the Opals camp), maintaining fitness (often training solo or with men's teams) and gaining experience in some of the best leagues in Europe. Her ability to lift a team has not gone un-noticed by the Australian selectors and her on court energy will be a valuable asset for the Opals.
