WABL season ends on a high at Hawks

The 2015 WABL season ended on a high for the Perry Lakes Hawks, with 8 out of 11 teams playing on the last Sunday of the season, winning Grand Finals.

After the conclusion of all the WABL grand finals, we held our Hawks WABL wind-up and presentations.

All 22 teams, along with coaches, managers and families assembled in the stands of the John Gardiner Show Courts where the Club’s President Karl Hombergen opened proceedings. 

Karl welcomed all, thanked a lot of people who were responsible for our teams being able to partake in the WABL competition and acknowledged the achievements of the Club on Grand Final day. 

He went on to say we had 22 of our team’s make the first week of finals, 17 of these teams progressed to semi-finals, 11 of those to Grand Finals and 8 taking out Championships. With the success throughout the home and away season and the final series, we were awarded with the Gillam Trophy by BWA. This is a perpetual trophy awarded to the most successful Association over the WABL season. 

From our WABL teams, 21 players were awarded WABL All-Stars, with 3 of these being named MVP’s for their age group: Ruby Hamilton W14-1; Matthew Fry M14-3 and Tyler Fitzpatrick M12-2. 

During the evening, our U14 Girls & Boys touring teams were introduced and presented with their touring bags. Both teams will compete in the Australian Club Championships from Monday 28th September. All coaches spoke about their seasons and presented their team’s award recipients.

Karl mentioned the departure from the Club of the M20s coach- Mal Keene, who has left to take up an SBL coaching role at another Association and thanked Mal for his long service with the Hawks. 

Congratulations to our U12C M; U12-2M; U14-1M; U12-2W; U14-1W;U14-3W; U16-1W & U18W on winning their Grand Finals and well done to our 12-1W; 14-3M & 18-2M on their narrow defeats.

A list of individual trophy recipients is attached and we congratulate all.
