Perry Lakes Hawks Basketball Association is calling for applications for 2014 State Champs Coaches and expressions of interest for 2015 WABL coaches.

With the changes in the WABL structure for 2015 we will require more coaches to join our Club, so feel free to complete an application.

In 2014 Perry Lakes Hawks will be holding weekly skills development sessions as part of the preparation for the State Championships Carnivals which will be held over these weekends: 

29, 30 November: U11 and U13 (Years of birth 2004/2005 & 2002) 

6, 7 December:      U12 and U15 (Years of birth 2003 and 2000)

13, 14 December: U14, U17, and U19 (Years of birth 2001, 1998/1999 and 1996/1997).

 We will not be forming teams for the Carnivals until a week or two prior to the carnival itself. Our emphasis is on providing an environment where our players can develop their basketball skills individually and in small groups away from the structured team environment. It also gives our players an opportunity to learn from all of our coaches and also to work with athletes from different age groups. 

We aim to allow as many athletes to participate in the skills sessions as is practicable, but reserve the right re-direct athletes to other development opportunities if we believe that this would be more appropriate to their current skill level. 

 We implemented this shift in focus in 2013 for the U15, U17 and U19 age groups and notified participants that the team selection would be done with two weeks or even one week prior to the tournament for that age commencing.  This allowed a much larger group of participants’ access to some skills training that they would not have previously had access to.  If they were good enough to make a team then that was their bonus – but the minimum take away was additional skills that they could take back to their domestic teams.

We intend to extend this program this year to the U11, U12, U13 and U14 age groups for 2014.

 

Whilst you will be appointed to coach an age group at the carnivals, you will be expected to assist all athletes at different times during the skills sessions.  

 Potential 2015 Under 14 touring teams

We will be appointing coaches to these age groups who we expect to take the group through to the qualifying tournament in February 2015 and then WABL in 2015.  We strongly recommend that the successful coach uses the State Champs carnivals to evaluate players prior to the final team selection.  To give your group the best chance of qualifying you will need to recommence training early in 2015

Sessions will commence on the following dates & times:

 Saturday 18^th October 2014 – Saturday 22^nd November 2014:

1:00 to 2:30pm   U11G & B   (2004 & 2005)

2:30 to 4:00pm   U12G & B, U13G (2002, 2003 & 2004)

4:00 to 5:30pm   U13B, U14B & G (2003, 2002, 2001)

 Thursday 16^th October 2014 – Thursday 11^th December 2014:

7.30 to 9.30pm   U15, U17 & U 19 (2000, 1999, 1998, 1997 & 1996)
