Nickname: Well Michael Lay has recently become infatuated with my resemblance to Andy Lee... but Julsa tends to be a regular.
Uni/Work: Exercise Physiologist and Occupational Therapist at Perth Integrated Health.
Why basketball? Good question, probably started ‘cause my mum didn’t want me playing a contact sport but it turned out I loved it so never stopped. Also, I think every kid growing up in the 90's played.
Years playing? I’ve been with the SBL team since about 2009 but I got into WABL in under 16s after just playing Saturday social league until then.
Your thoughts on the season so far? My favourite moment of the season was our pre-season with SD and the culture change he implemented. I knew then that we were going to be a very competitive team. It has been a great season so far but I don’t think we have reached our potential yet so coming into finals it will be very exciting as our offense is starting to look a lot more free flowing.
Favourite players/inspirational people: My favourite player has always been Magic Johnson. Playing Center in the 80's Finals, game 6 as a rookie and carrying the team the way he did, that is phenomenal (although I have never watched that game). Also Bill Russell – a consummate team oriented player that played hard, defended and won.
Favourite moment or moments playing: 1) Under 18s Div 1 Championship Team- We won the final by 40 points, it was a fun year playing with a lot of talented guys. 2) 3peat with the Hawks D-League team. 3) Being involved in an SBL Grand Final runner up team in my first year.
3 things you're good at other than basketball: Having an appropriate and comical YouTube video ready for most situations, having my ‘finger on the pulse’ and Blockus.
8 of your favourite things you couldn't live without: My bed, my car, the beach, sunshine, my fully functioning body, Ipod, Samsung Galaxy S4 and my brain.
If you could hang out with any 5 people in the world, who would they be?
Charles Barkley, Vincent Van Gogh, Stephen Fry, David Attenborough and Larry David.
